Job summary

Aecon Civil, a leader in infrastructure, is seeking a Construction Manager to lead on-site execution for a major Ontario project. You will oversee safety, quality, schedule, and interface with subcontractors, unions, and client representatives.

With 10+ years in transit or heavy civil construction, you will plan look-ahead schedules, manage resources, ensure training, and uphold Aecon's safety standards to deliver on milestones.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ construction management experience within the transit or heavy civil industry.
  • Background in projects with utilities, deep excavation, and shoring in busy urban areas.
  • Good understanding of construction methods and equipment to determine logistics and sequence of work.
  • Focused on implementing safety initiatives that further improve project quality and productivity.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient trades union relations management skills, and a solid understanding of union agreements applicable to the work.
  • Past experience leading self-perform and subcontractor works.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a construction program, including defining the project plan, activities, milestones, and manpower requirements.
  • Be accountable for ensuring all project execution resources have received the required training.
  • Identify succession plans for key individuals and implement necessary steps to train these individuals.
  • Support the preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, advanced/construction work pack correlation, modularization, and system handover strategies.
  • Review project design for compliance with construction-based engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Advise on construction-related activities relating to technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Provide input to procurement activities including validation of material specifications, preparation of purchase requisitions, material tracking, and ensuring traceability of materials when installed in the field.
  • Actively participate in quality assurance with regard to understanding and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the day-to-day on-site operations while upholding high safety standards, EHS policies, and overseeing the maintenance of traffic, environmental compliance, and stormwater control.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with client construction counterparts and a positive project culture.
  • Work in conjunction with the larger project team to deliver the project successfully.
  • Establish strategies to meet contract milestones.
  • Oversee field quality control and assist in the creation of risk mitigation strategies and implement where necessary.
  • Coordinate with public project owners to comply with local agency and environmental issues and requirements.
  • Represent Aecon and the project with the Client Representative in a professional manner and provide updates.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the applicable scope with knowledge of the work that is contracted and agreed upon between Aecon and the client.
  • Identify requests outside of contracted scope and raise any change management issues.
  • Create a detailed look-ahead schedule ensuring proper staffing, materials, and equipment are available when required.
  • Be responsible for all site execution matters, including the timely performance of the work.
  • Liaise with necessary subcontractors, union representatives, regulatory bodies, and engineering staff to ensure integration of all tooling designs.
  • Support the resolution of labour disputes through collaboration with EPSCA and Aecon Labour Relations Manager.

We are currently seeking a Construction Manager to support the team delivering a major infrastructure project in Ontario. Reason for Vacancy: New

The expected pay range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
