Job summary

IMP Aerospace & Defence in Halifax, Canada, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers supporting military, government, and commercial aerospace programs. You will drive safe, compliant execution of fleet sustainment, modification, and technical investigations while maintaining a strong focus on safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • Master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience within aerospace, aviation, defense, or a related technical environment.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience leading engineering teams, projects, or technical organizations.
  • Experience supporting aircraft sustainment, modification, modernization, or certification programs.
  • Working knowledge of military and/or civil airworthiness regulations.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft structures, systems, engineering analysis methods, and engineering processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical risk and supporting regulatory compliance activities.

  • Lead, coach, and develop engineering personnel to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Establish performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and professional development activities.
  • Plan and manage engineering resources to effectively meet program and business demands.
  • Monitor team workload and allocate resources to ensure efficient execution of work.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet schedule, cost, quality, and performance objectives.
  • Monitor and manage engineering performance using established KPIs and metrics.
  • Promote the application of effective project management practices throughout the organization.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, regulatory authorities, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, program reviews, and audits as required.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with other departments to support organizational objectives.
  • Review and approve statements of work, engineering estimates, and resource requirements.
  • Support proposal development, business capture activities, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.

Position Overview:

The Engineering Manager leads a team of engineering professionals and provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for engineering teams supporting military, government, and commercial aerospace programs. What You Will Bring:

  • Experience with project management principles, resource planning, and budget management.
  • Strong business acumen and customer engagement skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to occupational health, safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance. Ensure all work activities are conducted in accordance with applicable legislation, company policies, and safe work practices.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances .
