Job summary

IMP Aerospace & Defence is seeking an Avionics Engineer to support life‑cycle management of avionics/electrical systems. You will assist design, repair, monitoring, and improvement recommendations under the Avionics Engineering Supervisor.

The role involves liaising with customers, management, and multiple departments to ensure airworthiness, cost effectiveness, and contract compliance at the Halifax area facility near the international airport.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor level engineering degree in avionics/electrical engineering is required.
  • Eligible for ENS registration or equivalent is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze design deficiencies and recommend rectifications.
  • Represent the company at technical meetings with customers or manufacturers.
  • Prepare and review Statements of Work and engineering reports.

Position Overview

Responsible to the Avionics Engineering Supervisor, Aircraft Engineering, for the conduct of engineering support and life‑cycle management of avionics/electrical systems. The Avionics Engineer will support Engineers and/or Life Cycle Specialists in repair design, monitoring of aircraft system performance and maintenance requirements, and the recommendation of improvements as necessary to optimize life‑cycle costs. The Avionics Engineer will report to the IMP Group Ltd. - Aerospace and Defence location near the Halifax International Airport.

What You Will Do
  • Liaise with the customer, IMP senior management and the various company departments as required to ensure airworthiness, cost effectiveness and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Analyze design deficiencies and make recommendations for rectifications.
  • Represent the company at technical meetings with the customers, the aircraft manufacturer or other agencies as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals for work to be carried out in the section.
  • Review reports for accuracy, grammar and technical accuracy.
  • Prepare and review Statements of Work as required.
  • Provide technical advice as requested and required.
  • Where assigned overall responsibility for particular projects, shall exercise control over scheduling, progress, material and costing directly controlled by Engineering.
  • Prepare engineering reports, ground test plans and studies.
  • Complete technical investigations, services and engineering support activities as required.
  • Carry out troubleshooting and analysis as required supporting aircraft maintenance programs.
  • Complete electrical engineering design for refit/modification/repair/rework/prototype installations.
  • Complete analyses and prepare engineering reports.
  • Participate as a team member on major projects which may be based in other sections/departments within the Engineering branch.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring
  • B. Eng or B. Sc. (Eng) in Avionics/Electrical Engineering.
  • Eligibility for registration in ENS.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the MS Office and MS Windows environments.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Experience with military or commercial aircraft or equivalent engineering experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of aircraft avionics/electrical systems.
  • Familiar with engineering drawings and related MIL specs, preferably aircraft.
  • Drafting experience in AutoCAD or other drafting software will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of civil or military airworthiness and certification will be considered an asset.
  • Experience can range from 0 to 20+ years. Salary is commensurate with years of experience.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances.
  • Incumbents must be able to pass and maintain Public Works Government Services Canada (PWGSC) and Transport Canada security clearances.
