Job summary

Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) is seeking a Manager, Energy Management to lead enterprise energy programs and multi-year retrofit initiatives. You will develop plans, oversee budgets, and drive energy efficiency across engineered building systems.

With 8+ years in energy systems and building energy management, you will mentor a diverse team, manage vendors, and align initiatives with the Green Plan and sustainability goals while supporting operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Professional certification or post-graduate degree in Engineering, Data Analysis, Building Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in energy systems management.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in building energy management, building automation or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Develops business and work plans for designated programs to support corporate plans.
  • Leads and mentors a diverse group of vendors and staff.
  • Manage energy program budgets and provide regular forecasting to senior management.

This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This arrangement will allow you to work some days at a TCHC work location and the rest of the time from home. The amount of time required to work at a TCHC work location is flexible, while considering operational and service delivery requirements.

Make a difference

The Manager, Energy Management is responsible for developing and maintaining the enterprise energy management systems and programs to support continuous energy efficient operations. This role manages multi-year energy retrofit programs and energy efficiency functions related to engineered building systems.

What you’ll do
Leadership
  • Develops business and work plans for the designated programs to support TCHC corporate plans, direction and vision.
  • Leads, manages and mentors a diverse group of vendors, support and service staff.
  • Assists the Director to develop a mentorship program in the designated discipline incorporating TCHC’s succession plan. Identifies the individual(s) for training and development in future leadership roles.
  • Recommends, develops and implements performance management plans.
  • Establishes relationships and partnerships with staff, service providers, stakeholders and clients to ensure effective communication.
  • Provides vision and direction towards making the TCHC portfolio smarter and greener by incorporating the “triple bottom line” considerations of economic, environmental and social sustainability.
  • Recommends and develops plans to help TCHC meet the corporate Green Plan target to reduce 40% of GHG emissions.
Financial Accountability
  • Recommends to Director SBEM strategies to plan and manage the program budgets including the recommendations for planning energy programs using various analysis and forecasting tools.
  • Provides regular monthly and annual program budget forecasts for services and expenditures to the Senior Management Team.
Planning and Delivery (Energy Programs)
  • Forecasts resource requirements and recommends a flexible model including in house and market resources to manage the cyclical needs of TCHC.
  • Develops streamlined business processes to manage budgets, schedules and mitigate risk.
  • Provides technical advice, updated knowledge of new regulations, best practices and innovative and industry leading solutions to support effective and efficient program delivery.
  • Leads complex energy and capital tenders through sound estimating, quoting and bidding practices, including calls for Tenders, RFQ’s & RFP’s and prequalification tenders.
  • Develops and recommends tender/scope strategies, specifications, to meet TCHC.
  • standards and needs.
  • Evaluates tenders through procurement process on cost, capacity, performance and deliverables.
  • Manages energy partners by developing service-level, operating-level and partnership agreements.
  • Leads and resolves complex contract management and service issues to successful outcomes.
  • Works closely with the Facilities Team (Planning/Engineering) to develop and recommend corporate standards through market research and industry standards.
  • Participates in capital planning and budgeting priorities with stakeholders.
Reporting and Performance Metrics
  • Contributes to the corporate development of metrics and measurement tools for energy performance.
  • Recommends, develops and implements the Key Performance Indicators as required to effectively monitor and improve energy delivery.
  • Contributes to senior management reports in regards to areas of responsibility.
  • Assists in the compilation and updating of organizational energy management plan and sustainability.
What you’ll need
  • Professional certification or post-graduate degree in Engineering, Data Analysis, Building Science or equivalent.
  • Certified Energy Manager, Certified Energy Auditor, Certified Business Energy Professional or Certified Measurement & Verification Personnel designation would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in energy systems management.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in building energy management, building automation, financial analysis or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of enterprise energy information management, building automation, energy auditing, continuous commissioning, measurement & verification, new and emerging energy and green building practices and technologies.
  • Experience with energy analysis software (Faser, Gridlogix, Metrix, EnergyCAP)
  • Full G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
