What is it like to be a Manager of Data Engineering & Delivery at Northbridge Financial?

The Manager - Data Engineering & Delivery is responsible for managing data projects and leading a team of BSAs, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers. You will collaborate with business units, EPMO, IT leadership, teams, and partners to identify needs and deliver new data solutions using agile and waterfall methodologies.

  • Managing scope, design, build, and deployment of data projects such as EDLH Datamarts, data warehouses, Data Lakes, and Data Stores.
  • Delivering data solutions aligned with the data strategy and transformation initiatives.
  • Balancing data delivery with strategic data initiatives to support IT/EPMO portfolios.
  • Reviewing development options and making recommendations on technical impact, feasibility, and effort.
  • Guiding data engineering teams to implement solutions defined by architects and designers.
  • Establishing standards for data engineering and proactively improving practices.
  • Delivering ETL/ELT code for data initiatives and ensuring code quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Implementing best practices for code management using Azure DevOps.
  • Managing project documentation, including mappings, designs, schedules, and SLAs.
  • Collaborating with teams to ensure smooth progress and unblockages.
  • Managing vendor teams in onsite/offshore models.
  • Estimating technical efforts with solution designers and architects.
  • Understanding enterprise data warehouse, data integrations, and data marts.
  • Tracking sprint velocities and delivery metrics.
  • Identifying technical risks and maintaining status reports for leadership.
  • Facilitating knowledge transfer during project handovers.
  • Researching and proposing new technologies to benefit the team.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships and building rapport.
  • Developing skills and handling complex assignments.
  • Overseeing staff evaluations, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

If you have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Over 10 years in IT systems, development, and operations.
  • At least 6-8 years of supervisory/management experience, including leading BSA and Data Engineer teams.
  • Experience executing data ingestion, integration, marts, and warehouse projects.
  • Knowledge of the insurance domain (P&C), including claims processing, underwriting, reinsurance, and policy generation.
  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management and Azure DevOps.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to implement business requirements with minimal guidance.
  • Strong understanding of modern application architecture practices such as TDD, CI, version control, and design patterns.
