The Role

The Small Business Manager, Credit Risk, is responsible for exercising sound credit judgment and providing quality underwriting decisions. The role involves adhering to bank policies and exception authorities while balancing production objectives.

ACE reviews credit applications requiring exceptions across Retail Branches, Private Banking, Indirect Mortgage, and Indirect Auto channels, as well as underwriting for the Small Business channels (Branch, Healthcare & Professional Banking, and Agriculture).

The incumbent contributes to the success of the Adjudication Centre of Expertise / Global Operations in Canada by ensuring the execution of specific goals, plans, and initiatives aligned with the team’s business strategies and objectives. All activities must comply with regulations, policies, and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
  • Effectively analyze credit submissions, financial disclosures, and relevant documentation within risk tolerances.
  • Apply advanced credit judgment using the 5 C’s of credit, ensuring consistent policy and process application.
  • Adjudicate within established limits and exception authorities, providing quality recommendations for requests above limits.
  • Calculate financial ratios, identify appropriate credit conditions and securities, and understand business and economic trends.
  • Review credit assessments and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain professional, respectful, and value-added interactions with partners.
  • Provide recommendations, alternative solutions, and restructuring advice, coaching partners as needed.
  • Respond promptly to partner requests to meet customer expectations.
  • Meet ACE Service Level Agreement targets.
  • Contribute to the growth and quality of the Small Business Credit portfolio.
  • Identify risks and exceptions with strong rationale and mitigation strategies.
  • Operate within the bank’s risk appetite and culture daily.
  • Maintain acceptable review ratings from quality assurance and audits.

Note: The successful candidate must communicate in English and French, as they will work closely with head office teams operating primarily in English and serve English-speaking clients.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the bank’s Small Business products/services.
  • Expertise in lending policies, financial analysis, risk assessment, credit structuring, collateral, and security documentation.
  • Intermediate accounting and financial statement analysis skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team-oriented with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Effective communication skills, bilingual preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a high-volume environment.
