Job summary

Emera Inc. is seeking a Manager, Corporate Accounting in Halifax (Hybrid) to lead the corporate accounting team, ensuring timely financial reporting for Emera Inc. and affiliates. You will guide budgeting, variance analyses, and audits while partnering with Legal, IT, HR, and treasury to uphold strong controls.

You will mentor staff, drive process improvements, and ensure reporting accuracy under tight deadlines, with collaboration across jurisdictions and executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting with an accounting designation.
• Proven leadership with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Professional judgement and discretion under tight deadlines.
• Experience with US GAAP is an asset; SOx compliance experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Review monthly accounting files and financial statements for a portfolio of corporate entities.
• Review variance analysis and communicate results to senior audiences.
• Review detailed operating cost reports.
• Participate in budgets and forecasts.
• Prepare and review information to support quarterly financial statements.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical and Corporate Accounting, the Manager, Corporate Accountingis responsible for the financial processes, reporting, and related analysis for Emera Inc. and other corporate and holding companies. This role is cross-functional, and you will work closely with operations across the Emera enterprise in a variety of jurisdictions.

This key position leads a team of professional accountants providing guidance and leadership in business reporting and processes. You are a builder of strong, constructive relationships within the business including the larger Emera finance team (including Consolidation, Financial Reporting, Tax and Treasury), Legal, IT, HR and Emera affiliates.

• Review of monthly accounting files and financial statements for a portfolio of Emera’s corporate and holding companies. This requires meeting tight deadlines, ensuring the accuracy of files, and working closely with other Emera departments
• Reviewing variance analysis and communicating financial results to senior audiences
• Reviewing detailed operating cost reports
• Detailed review and involvement in budgets and forecasts
• Preparing and reviewing information to support Emera’s quarterly Financial Statements and Management Discussion & Analysis
• Working with other departments within Emera to collect and provide financial information
• Assisting external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits
• Ensuring compliance with NI 52-109 and SOx requirements, and implementation of best practices and process improvements
• Preparing other routine and ad hoc analysis, reports and participating in projects
• Planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks and maintaining a collaborative team environment and
• Providing mentorship, support and backup for other members of Corporate Accounting team

These skills will make you successful:

The successful candidate is an experienced financial professional with at least five years of progressive relevant experience and an undergraduate degree in finance or accounting with an accounting designation. You are a proven leader and demonstrate strong communication and relationship building skills. You demonstrate professional judgement and maturity, ensuring issues are resolved in a timely manner under tight financial reporting deadlines while upholding confidentiality.

• Strong financial acumen, problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong accounting background (experience with USGAAP standards is considered an asset)
• Experience with SOx compliance programs considered an asset
• Proven leadership ability ensuring team cohesiveness, effective delegation, and management and accuracy of team outputs
• Accuracy and attention to detail, while working under pressure to meet tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain strong relationships and networks across the organization
• Planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks while maintaining a positive attitude
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be proficient in MS Office Suite software, including strong Excel skills and a demonstrated curiosity and adaptability in using AI-assisted tools (e.g., Copilot) to improve efficiency and effectiveness
