Job summary

telMAX Inc. is seeking a Construction & Inspections Manager to oversee FTTH outside plant projects in York Region. You will coordinate deliverables, manage vendors and subcontractors, and ensure projects meet safety and quality standards from planning to completion.

You will work with senior managers to manage schedules, budgets, and regulatory requirements, while driving continuous improvement and career growth within telMAX.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of construction experience, telecom construction is an asset.
  • Experience in preparing labor and material estimates and managing project budgets.
  • Strong knowledge of FTTH outside plant construction methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations; First Aid/CPR is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate FTTH outside plant construction project deliverables, managing vendors, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Develop relationships with local authorities, regulators, clients, and community representatives to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare comprehensive project plans with objectives, scope, budgets, schedules, and forecasts.

Your Position & How You Will Contribute:

Reporting to the VP of Construction and Design, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Construction & Inspections Manager to oversee Fiber to the Home (FTTH) outside plant construction projects. This role requires a dynamic individual who can coordinate all project deliverables, manage vendors and subcontractors, and ensure successful execution of the project from planning to completion. The Construction & Inspections Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all construction & Inspection activities meet quality, safety, and performance standards. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Construction Manager, Project Managers, and Operations teams to ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and safety regulations. In this highly dynamic position, you will have the opportunity to learn and grow in your career and within the organization.

Responsibilities & Key Duties:
  • Coordinate all FTTH outside plant construction project deliverables, managing vendors, subcontractors, project superintendent, and project coordinator/engineer tasks, while liaising with the design team.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, regulatory bodies, clients, and community representatives, to ensure smooth project execution and adherence to regulations.
  • Prepare comprehensive project plans, including project objectives, scope, budget, detailed schedules, and forecasts.
  • Prepare labor and material estimates to ensure that project budgets are met based on the project design.
  • Manage and track all change proposals and change orders, ensuring proper client and internal signoffs, and clearly communicate scope, specifications, and budget changes to team members.
  • Oversee fieldwork to ensure it aligns with project schedules, including project documentation, daily worksheets, project plans, and material demands on inventory.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Managers and Project Managers to verify that contractor performance is meeting expectations and forecasts.
  • Review all project documentation to ensure a full understanding of the project’s scope, specifications, contracts, and each team member’s responsibilities.
  • Perform pre-construction, in-progress, and post-construction inspections of telecom infrastructure.
  • Ensure all installations meet company, client, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure team verifies non-conformance issues and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including photos, punch lists, and quality control checklists.
  • Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials and equipment to avoid project delays.
  • Monitor construction quality and ensure all work is performed in accordance with industry standards and client expectations.
  • Ensure that all job sites adhere to Health and Safety regulations and verify that insurance coverages are valid for all contractors.
  • Identify, mitigate, and manage risks and conflicts that could impact the project timeline or budget.
  • Coordinate the review and completion of as-built documentation with the Construction Manager and ensure timely distribution of information.
  • Oversee the project close-out process with the client, ensuring all project requirements are fulfilled and final sign-off is obtained.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Work with Operations to ensure timely turnover of projects for sales and drop crews.
  • Maintain and update project status reports, ensuring accurate and timely communication with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Verify that subcontractors adhere to quality and workmanship standards during installation and testing phases.
  • Ensure the team Validates as-built documentation and test results before project sign-off.
  • Review construction plans to fully understand each project’s scope, specifications, and ensure they are clearly communicated to field teams.
  • Facilitate the project close-out process with the client, obtaining final sign-off.
  • Track and validate fieldwork performance with the Senior Construction Manager and Project Manager, ensuring contractor performance meets forecasts.

Experience:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in the construction field, with experience in telecom construction being an asset.
  • Experience in preparing labor and material estimates, managing project budgets, and overseeing project documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of FTTH network builds, outside plant construction, and underground/aerial fiber construction methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations and ensuring compliance on construction sites.
  • First Aid/CPR training is an asset.
  • Proficient in project management software and tools for tracking schedules, costs, and resources.
  • Strong understanding of FTTH technology and outside plant construction processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Education:
  • College or University degree in related field
