Job summary

ATCO Energy Systems in Calgary is seeking a Manager, Commercial Development to lead a high-performing team responsible for business development, commercial strategy, customer solutions, and key account management across regulated natural gas operations.

You will guide collaborations with large industrial customers, producers, and suppliers to advance growth opportunities that boost energy infrastructure and long-term customer value, while mentoring your team in delivering solid business cases

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Commerce, Business, Finance, or related discipline.
• 10+ years in commercial development or related fields.
• Demonstrated knowledge of account management and business development.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Experience preparing business cases and persuasive communications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management capabilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel ~10% within Alberta.
• Knowledge of natural gas industry or utility rate design is an asset.
• Experience with Salesforce and data analysis is an asset.
• MBA/CFA is an asset.

• Develop innovative commercial strategies, contract structures, and customer solutions that enhance access to natural gas transportation and utility services.
• Drive strategic partnerships with upstream natural gas suppliers through commercial negotiations, contract management, and market-based planning activities.
• Leverage market analysis, demand forecasting, data analytics, and customer insights to identify emerging growth opportunities and support investment decisions.
• Build and maintain relationships with key customers, industry associations, municipalities, regulators, and economic development organizations to support regional growth and investment attraction.
• Champion the use of CRM tools, Salesforce, and customer data to strengthen customer engagement and enable informed decision-making.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team focused on customer success, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

About The Role

As Manager, Commercial Development, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for business development, commercial strategy, customer solutions, commercial contracting, key account management, and stakeholder engagement across ATCO Energy Systems' regulated natural gas operations. What You Bring

• A post-secondary degree in Engineering, Commerce, Business, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 10 or more years of related experience in commercial development, business development, or a comparable field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of account management and business development practices.
• Strong leadership, communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
• Experience preparing business cases and clear, persuasive business communications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical, and time-management capabilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• A valid Class 5 driver’s licence and the ability to travel outside Calgary approximately 10% of the time, primarily within Alberta.
• Knowledge of the natural gas industry and utility rate design is an asset.
• Experience with Salesforce and data analysis or manipulation is an asset.
• A professional designation or advanced degree, such as an MBA or CFA, is an asset
