The Work

The Manager, Commercial Credit is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and guidance to team members while ensuring that the team operates efficiently and productively. The Associate Manager will be responsible for:

  • reviewing and approving CRAs including originations, renewals, assumptions, and ad hoc requests within delegated limits
  • all aspects of CMHC portfolio management (excluding CMHC annual reviews), including monitoring and processing all maturities, renewals, and loan extensions, as well as the Quarterly Servicing Audit of CMHC loan files
  • assessing new deals received from servicers to assign them to the appropriate team member

The Manager will also ensure adherence to departmental guidelines, procedures, policies, and credit risk objectives, exercising sound judgment without compromising service and credit risk. Additional duties include weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting to support senior management and regulatory requirements. The Manager will communicate and cooperate with external partners and internal departments.

The Manager will conduct performance reviews and target settings for team members, as well as interviews for new employees. They are also responsible for underwriting various commercial mortgage products, including conventional and CMHC-insured facilities, in line with policies and standards, and contributing to team targets.

The core responsibilities include:

  1. Reviewing loan analyses (CRAs) submitted by underwriters and approving within limits, ensuring deals close efficiently and compliance with guidelines, while mentoring team members.
  2. Providing ongoing training and guidance through meetings and one-on-ones.
  3. Managing all aspects of CMHC portfolio management, including proactive handling of maturities, monitoring the CMHC pipeline, and coordinating audits.
  4. Preparing and conducting employee performance reviews and interviews.
  5. Communicating with internal and external contacts to ensure timely transaction processing and excellent customer service.
  6. Handling administrative and reporting duties monthly for senior management.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in underwriting commercial real estate transactions, including CMHC-insured mortgages.
  • Post-secondary education in business or finance preferred.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and legal documentation across Canada.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and perform under high volume.
  • Technical knowledge of real estate underwriting, financial analysis, and market factors.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
