Job summary

BDO Canada LLP is seeking a detailed-oriented tax professional to own client engagements in personal, corporate, partnership and trust tax. You will research issues, interact with tax authorities, and develop strategies to maximize tax opportunities while mentoring junior staff.

Requirements include CPA designation (or nearing completion), enrollment in an in-depth tax course, and 3–5 years of Canadian tax experience in public accounting, with CCPCs experience and familiarity with high-growth

Qualifications

  • CPA designation completed or nearing completion.
  • Enrolled in or applying for in-depth tax course.
  • 3–5 years of public accounting experience with Canadian tax specialization.
  • Familiar with CCPCs and founder-led high-growth companies.
  • Extensive knowledge of tax legislation and corporate, personal, and trust compliance and planning.
  • Strong teamwork, client service, and attention to quality in detailed work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review personal, corporate, partnership, and trust income tax returns including foreign reporting (T106, T1134, T1135, NR4, etc.).
  • Research tax issues and prepare memoranda or client letters for the appropriate audience.
  • Engage with tax authorities on income tax audits and appeals.
  • Develop and implement strategies for clients to capitalize on tax opportunities.
  • Identify and document tax filing positions including risk analysis.
  • Prepare and review income tax provision under IFRS/US GAAP/ASPE.
  • Manage multiple tax engagements while balancing deadlines, client needs, and team resources.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members.

Your Opportunity

This is for an existing vacancy, and the successful candidate will own the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review personal, corporate, partnership, and trust income tax returns along with other tax information forms including foreign reporting (T106, T1134, T1135, NR4, etc.)
  • Research tax issues and prepare memoranda or client letters, including writing reports/letters at the appropriate level for the intended audience
  • Engage with tax authorities on income tax audits and appeals
  • Develop and implement strategies for clients to capitalize on tax opportunities
  • Identify and document tax filing positions including risk analysis
  • Prepare and review income tax provision under applicable accounting standard (IFRS/US GAAP/ASPE)
  • Successfully manage multiple tax engagements while balancing deadlines, client needs, and team resources
  • Coach and mentor junior team members, supporting their professional growth and development

Your experience and education
  • You have completed or are nearing completion of your CPA designation
  • You are enrolled or in the process of enrolling in the in-depth tax course
  • You have three-five years' experience in public accounting with a specialization in Canadian tax
  • You have familiarity with Canadian controlled private corporations (CCPCs) and founder-led high-growth companies
  • You have extensive understanding of relevant tax legislation, corporate, personal, and trust tax compliance and planning
  • You value teamwork, client service, and quality in detailed work

The expected salary range for this position is $82,000 - $132,000 annually.
