Job summary

Sun Life Global Investments is seeking a Manager, Business Automation to lead automation delivery and governance within the Strategic Analytics and Innovation team. You translate business needs into build-ready requirements and coach the Automation Analyst to achieve results.

Hybrid work environment with exposure to Python, SQL, Power Automate, AWS and AI tooling. You’ll focus on governance, data considerations, and stakeholder value tracking to drive reliable automation outcomes.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years in automation, workflow, business analysis or delivery.
• Proficiency with Python, SQL, Power Automate, Microsoft 365, AWS and AI tooling.
• Strong stakeholder management, leadership and accountability.
• Senior-level problem solving and clear communication across audiences.
• University degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead Automation Intake, Prioritization, and Delivery.
• Run intake, triage, prioritization, and backlog management.
• Translate business problems into approved, build-ready requirements.
• Set priorities based on value, complexity, risk, and capacity.
• Define requirements and manage technical feasibility.
• Clarify data needs and constraints, and effort.
• Validate feasibility against Keel and approved source systems.
• Align specs with data governance and delivery controls.
• Manage the Automation Analyst and ensure quality.
• Coach and develop team members; own results.
• Support code standards, testing, change management and reuse.
• Deliver, govern, and sustain automation solutions.
• Support development, testing, deployment, and sustainment using Python, SQL, Power Automate, Microsoft 365, AWS and AI tooling.
• Implement error handling, logging, monitoring, and run books.
• Use peer reviews to manage automation and AI model quality and risk.
• Own stakeholder adoption and value tracking; communicate progress.

About the role

The Manager, Business Automation is a working-level people leader within Sun Life Global Investments on the Strategic Analytics and Innovation team. The role is accountable for automation intake, delivery, sustainment, and team performance across SLGI business functions. It sets direction for the Automation Analyst, translates business needs into build-ready requirements, contributes senior technical expertise, and ensures solutions are governed, reliable, documented, adopted, and business-aligned.

What will you do?

• Lead Automation Intake, Prioritization, and Delivery
• Run intake, triage, prioritization, and backlog management.
• Translate business problems into approved, build-ready requirements.
• Set priorities based on value, complexity, risk, and capacity.
• Define Requirements and Manage Technical Feasibility
• Clarify business needs, data dependencies, constraints, and effort.
• Validate feasibility against Keel and approved source systems.
• Align specifications with data governance, OSFI B-13 considerations, and delivery controls.
• Manage the Automation Analyst and Technical Quality
• Set direction, assign work, review output, and own results.
• Coach and develop less experienced team members.
• Support complex development and standards for code, review, testing, change management, and reuse.
• Deliver, Govern, and Sustain Automation Solutions
• Support development, testing, deployment, and sustainment using Python, SQL, Power Automate, Microsoft 365, AWS, and approved AI tooling.
• Implement error handling, logging, monitoring, documentation, run books, and escalation paths.
• Use peer review to manage automation and AI-enabled model quality and risk.
• Own Stakeholder Adoption and Value Tracking
• Manage stakeholder relationships, scope, progress, adoption barriers, and support.
• Communicate with peers and management to align outcomes to business goals.
• Track value, including time saved, expense impact, reliability gains, and risk reduction; escape serious issues

What do you need to succeed?

• 6 to 10 years of experience in automation, workflow, business analysis, or solutions delivery
• Proficiency with Python, SQL, Power Automate, Microsoft 365, AWS, and approved AI developer tooling
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust, manage expectations, and influence outcomes across diverse business partners.
• People leadership skills, with the ability to coach, develop, and support team members while driving accountability and results.
• Senior-level problem-solving, clear communication, diplomacy, prioritization, adaptability, and influence across technical, non-technical, and management audiences.
• University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Business Analysis, or related field; or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with source control, code review, and deployment practices.
• Exposure to cloud services and AI/ML concepts or tools.
• Experience working in Financial services or asset management.
• Awareness of data governance practices.
• Experience managing or supporting technical staff.
