Job summary

Sun Life is seeking an Analyst, Automation Development to design, build, test, deploy and maintain automation and AI-enabled solutions. You will work with the canonical data layer, apply clean SQL and development practices, and ensure solutions are reliable, documented and supportable. Qualifications

• 3-6 years of experience in software development, SQL scripting, data engineering, workflow automation, cloud platform development, or related technical discipline.
• Strong SQL proficiency and Python development experience.
• Knowledge of data integration and ETL concepts.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and monitoring discipline.

Responsibilities

• Develop and Deploy Automation Solutions: Build automations and AI-enabled workflows from approved requirements; write, test, and maintain production code using Python, SQL, Power Automate, Microsoft 365 tools, AWS Lambda, and approved AI tooling.
• Ensure Quality, Reliability, and Sustainment: Design and execute functional, integration, and edge-case testing; implement error handling, logging, monitoring and alerting; triage failures and maintain run books.
• Support Feasibility, Design, and Reuse: Assess requirements for feasibility, data availability, integration constraints, and technical risk; identify dependencies; use shared components and documented standards.

Job Description:

About the role:

The Analyst, Automation Development is a fully functional, independently operating role within Sun Life Global Investments on the Strategic Analytics and Innovation team. The role is responsible for designing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining automation and AI-enabled solutions from approved specifications. The role works directly with the canonical data layer, applies clean SQL and development practices, and ensures deployed solutions are reliable, documented, monitored, and supportable. The incumbent is fully proficient in the critical skills, knowledge, and competencies required for the role and may provide guidance to less experienced team members where applicable.

What will you do?

Develop and Deploy Automation Solutions

• Build automations and AI-enabled workflows from approved requirements.
• Write, test, and maintain production code using Python, SQL, Power Automate, Microsoft 365 tools, AWS Lambda, and approved AI tooling.
• Follow source control, code review, change management, and deployment protocols.

Ensure Quality, Reliability, and Sustainment

• Design and execute functional, integration, and edge-case testing.
• Implement error handling, logging, monitoring, and alerting for deployed solutions.
• Triage failures, resolve defects, maintain run books, and keep solution documentation current.

Support Feasibility, Design, and Reuse

• Assess requirements for feasibility, data availability, integration constraints, and technical risk.
• Identify dependencies against Keel and other source systems.
• Use shared components, templates, and documented standards to improve consistency and reduce future build effort.
• Identify opportunities to improve automation practices, increase efficiency, and enhance consistency across repeatable solutions.

What do you need to succeed?

• 3-6 years of experience in software development, SQL scripting, data engineering, workflow automation, cloud platform development, or a related technical discipline.
• SQL proficiency.
• Python development experience.
• Knowledge of data integration and ETL concepts.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and monitoring discipline.
• Strong logic, analytical thinking, and structured problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
• Clear communication skills, with sound judgment, and ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with Power Automate, Microsoft 365 workflow tools, AWS services, source control, code review, deployment pipelines, and AI-assisted development tools such as ClaudeCode or Bedrock.
