What can you expect from this position?
Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Aviation Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Assurance (QA), and dotted-line reporting to the SMS Accountable Executive (AE), the Manager, Aviation Safety Management System, is responsible for maintaining the Airport Operating Certificate by ensuring compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), and championing the development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the Aviation Safety Management System program.
As Manager, Aviation Safety Management System, you will:
- Maintain the Airport Operating Certificate through leading the development, implementation and monitoring of all elements related to the Aviation Safety Management System program and ensuring compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), Transport Canada Requirements, and other industry and international standards
- Manage the Aviation SMS Program and the following components:
- Aviation SMS Manual
- Hazard register content
- Safety Risk Profile
- Awareness campaign development
- Input Aviation SMS related data into database
- Manage and Chair Aviation SMS Working Group
- Establish and maintain a reporting system to ensure the timely collection of information related to hazards, incidents and accidents that may adversely affect safety
- Monitor the concerns of the civil aviation industry in respect of safety and their perceived effect on the holder of the Airport Operating Certificate
- Oversee the Investigation process for identification of causes of hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the safety management system and communicate the findings to the AE or delegate
- Co-chair the Local Runway Safety Team (LRST) with the Manager, Aviation Regulatory Programs
- Build a Just Culture and promote safety through various means, including organizing and running the Airside Safety Week (ASW), participating in the Canadian Airports Safety Week (CASW), and providing input in the Toronto Pearson Safety (TPS) promotions related to airside and aviation safety
This is the role for you, if you have:
- Post-secondary degree or a combination of education and relevant experience
- Safety Management Certification
- Three (3) years in an SMS program
- 2-3 years of aviation experience working at an airport, civil aviation authority, airline or Air Traffic Service provider
- 5 years of experience working with the Canadian Aviation Regulations and operational manuals
- 2 years of leadership with people management experience preferable in a matrix organization and multiple operations experience
- Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
- The ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position
