Job summary

Sun Life Health within Sun Life Canada is seeking a Manager, Audit & Risk to join the Finance team. You will lead critical control activities and oversee audit programs to support the business’s financial integrity.

Reporting to the Director, Financial Controls, Audit & Risk, you will mentor a team, coordinate with Finance and Operations, and drive continuous risk assessments and policy compliance across Sun Life Health.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of audit, financial reporting or internal controls experience.
• CPA, CIA, or equivalent designation.
• Knowledge of IFRS and SOX controls in the insurance industry.
• Proven people manager with strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
• Self-motivated, results-oriented with adaptable priorities.

Responsibilities

• Manage CSAE 3416 (SOC1) and SOX annual audit programs.
• Collaborate with Finance and Operations to ensure audit effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain control matrices and narratives.
• Lead the SLH Finance quality assurance program and testing.
• Oversee key controls like access reviews and quarterly attestations.
• Coordinate Business Continuity and Disaster recovery efforts.
• Lead risk assessment activities and implement improvements.
• Draft ICFR and memo documentation for new businesses.
• Support EUCs and Risk Models policy compliance.
• Mentor and develop a team of finance associates.

Job Description:

The Sun Life Health (SLH) business within Sun Life Canada is a leading provider of Group Benefits and Health Solutions. A market leader in the advancement of workplace mental health across Canada, through the introduction of new tools such as Virtual Care and Stress Management and Well-Being program providing members access to mental health and medical specialists 24/7. SLH is seeking a Manager, Audit & Risk to join its fast-paced and energetic Finance team.

Reporting to the Director, Financial Controls, Audit & Risk, the Manager, Audit & Risk will play a crucial role in executing and supporting control activities critical to the Sun Life Health business.

What will you do?

• Manage the CSAE 3416 (SOC1) and financial statement (SOX) annual audit programs.
• Work closely with stakeholders across Finance and Operations to ensure effective and efficient audit execution.
• Lead the development and maintenance of key control matrices and narratives.
• Lead the SLH Finance quality assurance program including testing and communication of results.
• Manage key controls including access reviews, write-off reporting, and quarterly attestations.
• Lead the Business Continuity and Disaster recovery program.
• Lead risk assessment activities, including preparing risk-based recommendations for improvements.
• Draft ICFR/Error memos and technical accounting/application memos for new or changing businesses.
• Support the management of End User Computing (EUCs) and Risk Models to ensure continued policy compliance.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of finance associates.

What do you need to succeed?

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in audit, financial reporting, technical accounting, and/or internal controls.
• Previous public accounting or internal audit experience.
• CPA, CIA, or other relevant designation.
• Understanding of IFRS and SOX controls relevant to the insurance industry.
• Experienced people manager with strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
• Self-motivated, results-oriented and flexible to changing priorities and timelines.
• Proven technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
