Job summary

Sun Life Financial is seeking a Manager of Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) to oversee policy, guidelines and governance across the enterprise. This is a 2nd line of defence role focusing on risk controls, data analysis and program evolution with AI-enabled initiatives.

You will collaborate with Business Group Risk Office teams, drive training, and support regulatory compliance while guiding cross-functional stakeholders through risk decisions in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of risk management experience, with 2+ years in TPRM.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Finance, or related field; certification welcomed.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence.
  • Proactive and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong writing and data visualization to articulate analytics.
  • Strong writing and visual presentation skills to articulate analytics and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in maintaining and enhancing the TPRM program, including policy updates.
  • Monitor compliance to the TPRM Policy; track Policy Non-Compliances (PNC) and Key Risk Indicators (KRI).
  • Aggregate, analyze and challenge third-party data to assess risk profiles across groups.
  • Support regulatory data collection and reporting related to third-party risk.
  • Develop, maintain and deliver training to Risk Office teams and stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance on adherence to the TPRM Policy and Enterprise Operating Guideline.
  • Review business groups’ process documents for gaps and recommendations.

The Manager, Third Party Risk Management (TPRM), is responsible for overseeing the enterprise TPRM Policy, Operating Guideline, and supporting procedures. As a second line of defence (2B) role, the Manager provides governance, oversight, and guidance to support the effective management of third-party risks. The enterprise third-party governance framework supports coordinated risk oversight across business partners and second-line risk functions throughout the third-party lifecycle. The Manager supports the ongoing evolution of the TPRM program through innovation, transformation, process enhancement, and AI-enabled initiatives. The role works closely with Business Group Risk Office teams and other stakeholders to drive the effective implementation and adoption of program changes across the enterprise.

What will you do?
  • Assist the Director in the maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of the TPRM program including updates to the TPRM Policy and Enterprise Operating Guideline (EOG)
  • Monitor compliance to the TPRM Policy including tracking and reporting of Policy Non-Compliances (PNC) and Key Risk Indicators (KRI)
  • Aggregate, analyze and challenge third-party data across Business Groups to support evaluation of the enterprise third-party risk profile
  • Support regulatory requirements and data collection exercises relevant to third-party risk
  • Support development, maintenance and delivery of training to Business Group Risk Office teams and other stakeholders as required
  • Provide guidance and advice to the Business Group Risk Office teams when judgement or further clarification is required on adherence to the TPRM Policy and EOG
  • Review Business Groups’ process documents to ensure alignment with the TPRM Policy and Enterprise Operating Guideline (EOG), identifying gaps and recommendations as appropriate
What do you need to succeed?
  • 5+ years of risk management experience, with 2+ years of experience supporting TPRM Programs, controls and processes, ideally within a major Federally Regulated Financial Institution
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Finance, or other relevant field and / or certification
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience
  • Proactive and adaptable mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving industry and organization
  • Well developed writing and visual presentation skills to sufficiently articulate analytics results, options, recommendations and reporting
  • Demonstrable experience of developing strong working relationships with cross-functional business areas and multi-stakeholder landscape to drive execution of key deliverables and facilitate successful risk management within the Three Lines of Defence model

Salary Range: 85,000/85 000 - 128,000/128 000

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
