Job summary

Science World is seeking a Manager, Annual Giving & Donor Engagement to lead donor relations, design annual giving programs and drive revenue growth. This role reports to the Director of Major Gifts and requires strong interpersonal and analytical skills.

The position supports a strategy that includes annual, monthly and mid-level giving, with collaboration across the Development team, Marketing and Finance to ensure donor satisfaction and data integrity.

Qualifications

  • University graduate with 5–7 years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • Track record in identifying, cultivating and securing annual gifts.

Science World is a mission-based, charitable organization that supports the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math) literacy across British Columbia. Our plan is to ensure that people throughout British Columbia, especially under-represented communities, have access to high quality, informal STEAM learning. Through our onsite, online and outreach programs, Science World seeks to spark curiosity and wonder in STEAM and support development of talent across communities in the province.

As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.

Position Description

Reporting to the Director, Major Gifts, the Manger, Annual Giving & Donor Engagement is a key member of the Development team and is responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies – both personally and in collaboration with team members - to strengthen individual donor relationships and increase revenue from annual giving, monthly giving, and mid-level giving to Science World.

This role requires strong attention to detail, exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills, including the ability to foster a broad range of relationships with donors, prospects, staff members, volunteers and the wider community. Working with individual donors, this self-starter has experience managing an annual giving program with proven success in donor identification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship across a range of giving vehicles. The role is responsible for maintaining and proactively monitoring gift reports while providing supervision and support to the Database Entry Specialist.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with Development team members, including the Director, Major Gifts, to identify annual giving donors as prospects for major giving, supporting a moves management strategy to increase individual donation revenue to Science World
  • Strategic and timely annual giving activities that identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals to generate financial support for Science World funding priorities while being accountable for personal, team and organizational revenue goals
  • Directly responsible for revenue goals and implementation of all aspects of annual giving activities related to monthly donation, direct mail campaigns, on-line giving, e-appeals and membership giving
  • Work collaboratively, cross-functionally and proactively across Science World to maximize donor support and stewardship opportunities across all programs and activities
  • Maintain accuracy of gift reporting for Development department and lead coordination of revenue recording with Database Entry Specialist and Finance team
  • Work proactively with Finance team ensuring accuracy of gift tracking between Development and Finance departments
  • Work with the Director, Major Gifts to develop annual fundraising plans, ensuring the delivery, monitoring and reporting of the plan is in alignment with organizational strategic goals
  • Responsible for the supervision and management of the Database Specialist including goal planning, performance reviews and facilitating professional development
  • Proactively identify and reach out personally to new, lapsed and returning prospects to continuously build the annual donor pipeline at Science World and personally manage a diverse prospect pipeline at an annual and mid-level gift range
  • Write personalized proposals, develop and deliver presentations for donors or prospects as required
  • Working with the Marketing and Brand team to manage the development and implementation of donor communication, stewardship and solicitation strategies across Science World channels and publications for all annual giving activities
  • Consistently maintain an exceptional degree of confidentiality and diplomacy in all aspects of the role, including managing sensitive and confidential donor files
  • Timely execution of donor cultivation and stewardship activities including proposals, agreements, reporting, invitations, and pledge materials as required
  • Execution of donor appreciation, stewardship events and special events in collaboration with team members, contractors and volunteers
  • Promote a culture that is donor-centric, where requests from internal and external constituents are responded to with a high degree of urgency, professionalism and accuracy
  • Operate within the philosophy, culture and values of Science World
  • Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
Qualifications
  • University graduate or equivalent with 5-7 years of professional, non-profit fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated record in personally identifying, cultivating and securing individual gifts via annual giving across tactics including monthly giving, direct mail and e-appeals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with diverse audiences
  • Comfortable communicating with donors in single or group environments including proactively calling donors directly and leading tours
  • Strategic thinker and proven analytical skills, including financial reporting
  • Strong knowledge of database management, creating or overseeing creation reports, and donor segmentation strategies
  • Strong attention to detail while managing multiple projects; superb problem-solving skills and focus on results
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external constituents, with proven interpersonal savvy and a keen sense of diplomacy while holding contributors to account
  • Resourceful and organized; able to manage competing priorities, complex situations and deadlines
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge an asset
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required

The pay range for this position is $70,000 – $85,000 per year.
