What Will You Do

Under the direction of the GM, Field Operational Programs & Quality Assurance, the Manager, Airside Training and Standards plays an essential role in the effective development and delivery of operational training programs and documentation. The Manager, Airside Training and Standards is responsible for the design and implementation of training programs in support of new process, regulatory changes, and continuous operational improvement. This position acts as a subject matter expert relating to airfield training and documentation best practice and industry standards. This is a working position that also provides leadership to others within the business unit on requirements and best practices, while also leading, coaching, and supporting on the job trainers within the department.

What Are Some Of The Responsibilities

  • Own the Airside Training Program including the development, coordination, and management of the Airfield Equipment Operator (AEO), Fleet Maintenance, and Airfield Operations Specialist (AOS) on-boarding (new hire) training and recurrent (seasonal) training plans for year-round programs. Ensure that the training is consistent with all applicable legislation and regulations and is updated as required.
  • Determine the most effective and efficient training delivery methods for all required training (i.e. virtual or in-person.).
  • Ensure continuous improvement of all Airside training programs by conducting needs assessments, developing content, determining delivery methods and developing evaluation criteria.
  • Manage and report on program outcomes and metrics.
  • Partner closely with IOC, Safety, Security, Environmental, Project Teams, and other YYC Departments to develop strategies and action plans for new learning and documentation program offerings.
  • Conduct training sessions with On-The-Job Training (OJT) instructors and other members of the Airside Services team as required to support the training & standards program.
  • Participate in annual reviews and updates to operational documentation for Airside and Groundside Operations and ensure training material reflects the updates.
  • Work with the Airside Services Leadership team on all other Airside Services employee training and development needs, including in areas of safety, documentation and records retention.
  • Utilize available communication means at Airside to distribute organizational, leadership, and safety updates as needed.
  • Research and implement emerging trends and best practices in training and delivery.
  • Ensure that all training records are appropriately managed to ensure record integrity and efficient retrieval and review.
  • Support Development Plan and Goals creation and tracking for Airside Crew to ensure support in achieving organization goals, positively impact the Authority’s operations, and personal development opportunities.
  • Create, enhance, deliver and review the Airside Services OJT Program.
  • Support On-The-Job Training (OJT) instructors on course delivery, proficiencies and providing constructive and effective feedback to AEO, and Fleet Maintenance employees.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the organization’s learning management system for all Crew at Airside.

What Do You Need To Bring

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • Post-secondary education in educational/instructional design, business administration, human resources or related are required. Relevant experience in lieu of education may be considered.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a related function facilitating or building training programs, preferably in a complex operations environment.
  • 1+ years relevant experience in an operational environment, preferably in aviation.
  • Strong experience in the design and development of adult education training programs, including knowledge of adult learning principles, training methodologies, and training design.
  • Strong experience in training delivery, public speaking, facilitation and presentations.
  • Experience in preparing documentation management protocols including development of policies and standard operating procedures and version control.
  • Experience in document management systems and learning management systems.
  • Experience with graphic, video and training design software.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships at all levels with airport stakeholders, Authority staff, training participants and the airport community.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven analytical, planning and organization skills.
  • Meet requirements of a safety-sensitive position, including pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and be able to maintain a Valid Class 5 Driver’s license

WHAT OPTIONAL ELEMENTS SUPPORT YOUR APPLICATION (all Are Assets)

  • Bilingual in English or French
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the aviation industry, airport operations, and airline operating procedures is preferred.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to effectively build successful and harmonious teams is preferred.
