Job summary

Government of Yukon, Management Board Secretariat, located in Whitehorse, seeks a skilled analyst to support accountable financial planning and governance. The successful candidate provides analysis, recommendations, and advice to Management Board and Cabinet on resource allocation and budget management.

You will develop operating and capital budgets, assess risks, and produce clear reports for senior leaders.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Public or Business Administration, Accounting, Political Science, Economics or a similar discipline.
  • Experience researching, analyzing and synthesizing information.
  • Experience in financial analysis or developing operating and capital budgets.
  • Experience developing and providing advice to senior management in both written and oral formats, preferably in a government setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analysis and recommendations to Management Board and Cabinet on allocation, management and control of resources.
  • Support development of corporate budgets and multi-year financial forecasts.
  • Research risks and opportunities to inform the territory’s fiscal plan and decision making.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Who we are…

Management Board and Budget Secretariat is a branch within the Department of Finance and provides strategic analysis and advice to Management Board, a committee of Cabinet responsible for coordinating the efficient and effective utilization and deployment of all financial and human resources of the government. The Secretariat supports informed decision-making at the highest levels of government by leading in the development of the territory’s fiscal plan, analysis of departmental budgets and reviewing new policies, programs, and guidelines.

Working with Government of Yukon departments, corporations and agencies, the Secretariat manages the government’s financial planning process, developing and producing the government’s annual revenue, operating and capital budgets, and multi-year financial forecasts reviewing and making recommendations on funding requests, both operational and capital.

The opportunity…

The Management Board Analyst plays a key role in supporting accountable financial planning and management of government resources by providing analysis and recommendations to Management Board and Cabinet on the allocation, management and control of government resources, and the development of corporate budgets.

As a Management Board Analyst, you are responsible for providing analysis and advice on management board submissions for their assigned clients. Through ongoing analysis of the risks and opportunities affecting the financial plan, the Management Board Analyst supports effective and efficient use of public resources and assets and promotes responsible financial management.
