Job summary

A leading long-term care facility is seeking a Maintenance Worker to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for residents and staff. The successful candidate will operate building systems, respond to maintenance requests, and uphold health and safety standards. This role requires at least three years of experience in building operations, preferably in a healthcare setting, and knowledge of commercial building systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of experience in general maintenance and building operations.
• Knowledgeable in electrical distribution, HVAC, and life safety systems.
• Relevant training in building systems is a plus.

Job description

Reporting to the Support Services Supervisor or designate at Mon Sheong Richmond Hill Long Term Care Centre, the incumbent must maintain a comfortable, safe, and aesthetic environment for residents, staff, and visitors. All work will be carried out in accordance with health and safety guidelines and procedures to ensure the safety of residents and workers.

Main Duties:

1. Operate building systems, monitor and secure the facility, including furnishings, bathrooms, toilets, drains, life safety systems (fire alarm, fire suppression, and protection systems), emergency exits, HVAC systems, hot water boilers, circulation mechanisms, emergency backup power generator, cooler, freezer, kitchen equipment, telephone and cable systems, residents’ aiding equipment (grab bars, walkers, lifters, wheelchairs, nursing-call system), entrance, driveways, walkways, parking lots, lighting, housekeeping cleaning equipment, and laundry machines.
2. Respond to maintenance work requests and record repairs.
3. Direct parking lot traffic during special events.
4. Record building system operations and report any unusual or alarm signals to the Building Services Supervisor during inspections.
5. Maintain the maintenance workshop in good condition at all times.
6. Follow health and safety regulations at all times.
7. Observe and practice all fire safety regulations and procedures.
8. Respond to emergency calls promptly.
9. Ensure elevators are maintained for safe use.
10. Monitor and report inventory requirements to the Building Services Supervisor.
11. Set room configurations for specific events and functions.
12. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including wall touch-ups, equipment maintenance, and inspections.
13. Provide equipment access to contractors for inspections and repairs.
14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Services Supervisor.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum three years of experience in general maintenance and building operations, preferably in long-term care or a healthcare facility.
2. Knowledgeable and experienced with commercial building systems, including electrical distribution, backup generators, HVAC, and life safety systems.
3. Relevant training leading to a Building Environmental System Operator Class I certificate or equivalent is a plus.
