Job summary

UniFirst Canada is seeking a reliable Maintenance Tech I to perform repairs, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of industrial equipment, including large washers, boilers, pneumatic and steam systems. On-site role with on-the-job training, Monday–Friday schedule, and a pathway for growth.

The role requires ability to read blueprints, use hand tools, and operate CMMS for maintenance records. Safe operation and adherence to Lockout/Tagout protocols are essential to success.

Qualifications

  • High school or GED required; two-year technical degree preferred.
  • 5th Class Power Engineer and CMMS experience highly regarded.
  • Reading blueprints/schematics is essential; welding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain industrial equipment, boilers, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs using hand/power tools.
  • Follow safety procedures and Lockout/Tagout protocols.
  • Interface with CMMS to document repairs and log results.
  • Respond to alarms and assist in emergency maintenance as needed.

UniFirst Canada is seeking a reliable and hardworking Maintenance Tech I to join our UniFirst team. As a Team Partner in the Maintenance Department, you will handle repairs, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of industrial equipment, systems, and components, both indoor and outdoor facility and equipment, including but not limited to: large capacity washers, dryers, pneumatic and steam systems, convey system and boilers. At UniFirst we have a standard Monday - Friday work week. We have an immediate opening and provide on the job training.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Utilize hand/power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, precision measurement tools, and electronic testing devices.
  • Ensure safe operation of machinery, mechanical electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Follow blueprints, schematics, operation manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshoot sources of equipment problems through observation and use of precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Perform boiler chemical and wastewater pre-treatment system testing, record results in logbooks / computer systems and make necessary chemical adjustments as required
  • Perform daily and weekly safety checks on boilers and make necessary repairs as required.
  • Perform Lockout/Tagout and Confined Space procedures where appropriate.
  • Record and analyze meter readings of utilities in long and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Perform daily and weekly location/system safety checks and follow up to address concerns.
  • Inspect motor, belts, fluid levels, replace filters and perform other maintenance actions in accordance with maintenance procedures.
  • Inspect, clean and lubricate shafts, bearings gears and other equipment parts in accordance with work procedures and technical manual.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System for all repair and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Respond to emergency alarms and assist with other maintenance personnel with emergency and non-emergency repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by location management.
Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • High school and/or GED is required.
  • Two-year technical degree in an appropriate background is preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of 5th Class Power Engineer
  • Must pass UniFirst’s maintenance knowledge assessment to be eligible for employment.
  • Valid non-commercial driver’s license and a safe driving record are required.
  • Knowledgeable in maintenance equipment.
  • A minimum of 6 months’ work experience repairing industrial processing equipment in a production environment is required. Applicable military experience will be considered.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics is required.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance literature printed in English is required.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills are required.
  • Lockout / Tagout experience is required.
  • Prior welding experience including MIG, TIG, ARC, cutting, and brazing is preferred.
  • Experience with formalized safety programs is preferred.
  • Prior experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is preferred.
  • HVAC experience and boiler knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed is required.
