You will support fiber laser, punching/shearing, panel-bender and robotic/pallet-handling systems while ensuring safety and uptime.

Responsibilities include breakdown response, PM tasks, equipment modifications and collaboration with IT/OT, operations and OEM teams to optimize performance.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in electromechanical engineering technology or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance in automated manufacturing; strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with PLC/HMI, CNC, VFDs, servo drives and safety circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe breakdown response and root-cause analysis for mechanical, electrical and controls systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot automated sheet-metal fabrication and material-handling equipment.
  • Read electrical schematics, ladder logic and OEM manuals; document findings and actions.
  • Lead preventive/predictive maintenance, calibration, lubrication and component replacement.

Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.What you’ll do:Position Summary:The Maintenance Technician - Controls & Automation maintains troubleshoots, repairs and improves advanced sheet-metal fabrication and automated material-handling equipment at the Milton, Ontario sites. The role provides hands-on mechanical, electrical and controls support for the automated production line, including the material management automated storage and material-flow system, fiber laser, punching/shearing, panel-bending and robotic/pallet-handling equipment. The technician responds to breakdowns, executes preventive and predictive maintenance, supports safe start-up and recovery, and partners with Operations, Engineering and OEM service teams to improve uptime, reliability and equipment capability.Key Responsibilities:• Provide safe, timely breakdown response and root-cause troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, CNC, safety and communication systems.• Maintain and troubleshoot the material management automated storage/retrieval and material-handling system, including towers, cranes/loaders, conveyors, sensors, interlocks, pallet/stacking interfaces and communication faults.• Support equipment such as fiber laser cutting, turret punching and shearing, panel bender, automated tower and pallet-stacking or robotic systems, as applicable to the Milton line configuration.• Troubleshoot safety circuits and devices, including E-stops, safety relays/PLCs, light curtains/barriers, guards, interlocks and dual-channel circuits; never bypass or defeat safeguards.• Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, mechanical drawings, pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams and OEM manuals; trace circuits and signals using appropriate diagnostic tools.• Plan and complete preventive/predictive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, cleaning, alignment, calibration, filter/cooling-system service, cutting-head/optics maintenance and component replacement.• Use the computerized maintenance management system to document work performed, failure modes, downtime, parts used, follow-up actions and recurring issues; help optimize PM tasks and critical-spares inventory.• Lead or support structured problem solving and reliability improvements using fault history, downtime data and root-cause analysis; recommend corrective actions and equipment modifications.• Coordinate effectively with production, engineering, IT/OT, contractors and OEM technical support during troubleshooting, upgrades, installations and commissioning.• Train operators and other maintenance team members on basic care, fault recognition, safe recovery procedures and new equipment requirements.• Follow all site EHS requirements, lockout/tagout and electrical-safety rules; maintain a clean work area and participate in risk assessments and continuous-improvement activities.• Provide shift, overtime, call-in and weekend coverage when required to support production and major maintenance activity.Qualifications:Basic Qualifications:• Post-secondary diploma/certificate/degree in electromechanical engineering technology, industrial automation, electrical technology, mechanical technology, millwright studies or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience may be considered.• Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in an automated manufacturing environment, with demonstrated independent troubleshooting of complex equipment.• Experience in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo and CNC systems.• Experience with PLC, HMI, CNC, VFD, servo-drives, I/O and logic,• Must reside within 120 km of Milton, Ontario, Canada.Preferred Qualifications:• Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Electrician (442A) and/or Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A), or active apprenticeship with relevant experience.• Direct experience with sheet metal fabrication equipment, automated storage/retrieval system, fiber laser systems, panel benders, punching/shearing cells and paint line.• Experience troubleshooting PLC/HMI platforms, industrial Ethernet/fieldbus networks and safety PLCs.• Experience with commissioning, machine installation, program/parameter backup and controlled logic changes.• Working knowledge of computerized maintenance systems and formal root-cause tools.Skills:Position Criteria:• Practical controls capability: PLC/HMI diagnostics, industrial networks, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, motor controls, safety circuits and electrical schematic interpretation.• Strong mechanical maintenance skills involving hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, linear motion, alignment and precision machine components.• Experience with CNC, laser cutting, automated sheet-metal fabrication, AS/RS, robotic material handling or comparable integrated production systems.• Ability to use appropriate diagnostic tools safely and effectively.• Ability to communicate clearly, document technical work and work effectively under production pressure.• Availability for the assigned shift and reasonable overtime/call-in coverage.Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours:• Safety-first judgement and disciplined lockout/tagout practices.• Systematic fault isolation across interconnected mechanical, electrical and software-controlled systems.• High urgency without sacrificing safety, quality or documentation.• Ownership, reliability and willingness to share technical knowledge.• Clear communication with operators, leaders, contractors and OEM specialists.• Continuous-improvement mindset and comfort learning new technology.All positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
