Job summary

Ripley's Aquarium of Canada in Toronto is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician (Full Time) to keep the facility safe, clean, functional, and guest-ready. You will perform daily maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upkeep across building systems and spaces, reporting to the Senior Manager of Facilities.

This role requires flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and before/after hours; you will collaborate with teams, follow SOPs, and help ensure a positive guest experience.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of general mechanical or facilities experience.
  • Able to read blueprints, schematics, manuals.
  • Experience with general contracting, repairs, and upkeep.
  • Flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Confident with hand tools, power tools, ladders, and radios.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily maintenance and repairs on building systems and fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot issues and schedule necessary repairs.
  • Carpentry, fabrication, installation, and basic construction tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in public and back-of-house areas.
  • Support groundskeeping and housekeeping as needed.
  • Record maintenance logs and manage inventories within budgets.
  • Respond to operational needs to ensure guest experience.
  • Follow SOPs and health and safety procedures.

Position: Building Maintenance Technician (Full Time)

Facility: Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada Reports to: Senior Manager of Facilities

Job Purpose: The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping the facility safe, clean, functional, and guest-ready. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Facilities and Operations, this role performs daily maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upkeep across building systems, equipment, work areas, and public and back-of-house spaces.

This position supports an attraction that operates 365 days a year. The successful candidate must be available to work flexible shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and work before or after public operating hours as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete daily maintenance and repair work on building systems, equipment, interior lighting, plumbing, electrical components, drywall, paint, fixtures, and general facility assets.
  • Troubleshoot issues, identify required repairs, and take prompt action to keep equipment and spaces operating properly.
  • Perform carpentry, general fabrication, installation, assembly, and basic construction tasks as needed.
  • Maintain public spaces, back-of-house areas, mechanical spaces, work areas, and exterior areas to a high standard of cleanliness and safety.
  • Support groundskeeping and housekeeping tasks, including mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, debris removal, and general facility upkeep when required.
  • Follow routine and preventative maintenance schedules and accurately complete daily logs, work records, and maintenance documentation.
  • Monitor supplies, maintain inventories of critical parts, and use materials and resources within departmental budget guidelines.
  • Respond to operational needs and assist other departments to support smooth daily operations and a positive guest experience.
  • Follow all organizational and departmental SOPs, health and safety procedures, and emergency response expectations.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and other departments using radios and other communication tools.
Skills and Requirements
  • Able to perform physical labour, lift materials, work with tools, and complete strenuous tasks safely.
  • 1–2 years of general mechanical, technical, building maintenance, or facilities experience is an asset.
  • Able to read and interpret technical documents, including blueprints, schematics, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Experience with general contracting, repairs, installations, and facility upkeep is required.
  • Available to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and shifts outside regular operating hours.
  • Confident using hand tools, power tools, ladders, maintenance equipment, and radio-based communication equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Pay Rate:$45,510.40/annually
