Job description

Minimum Requirements

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Tasks

  • Design prosthetic and orthotic devices, such as artificial limbs, braces, or supports based on physicians' prescriptions and examination of patients.
  • Ensure the information on prescriptions is accurate.
  • Fabricate prosthetic and orthotic appliances.
  • Fit and make adjustments for proper fit and comfort.
  • Repair, build, and modify prosthetic or orthotic appliances or footwear.
  • Assemble or build prosthetic and orthotic appliances according to drawings, measurements, and plaster casts.
  • Examine and measure patients to develop working sketches of appliances.
  • Take body or limb measurements of patients.
  • Interpret physician's specifications.
  • Make and modify plaster casts.
  • Repair and maintain fabrication and laboratory equipment.
