Job summary

A leading North American manufacturer located in Toronto is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee operations in a bag manufacturing facility. Job description

The client is a leading North American manufacturer of recyclable plastic shopping bags and can liners.

  • Day to Day direct supervision of a group of Craftsmen, labors, and Maintenance Planner, involved in repairing and maintaining all equipment in a Bag Manufacturing Facility including building facility, HVAC, Chillers and Air compressors.
  • Input, Preparation, Updating, and follow up of work schedule for all craftsmen.
  • Input to, and application of best practice work methods and procedures for trades group.
  • Key management representative responsible for providing safe, timely and efficient repairs.
  • Application of engineering standards and government codes in trades.
  • Daily monitoring and purchase of maintenance materials, supplies, tools, equipment including spare part inventory in an efficient manner.
  • Technical troubleshooting and problem solving of equipment failures; recommendation / initiation of corrective measures when appropriate / required
  • Day-to-Day application of plant safety practice and maintenance safety and compliance program.
  • Participate in the preparation of emergency and contingency plans.
  • Preparation of training, scheduling, and monitoring of on-the-job training and instruction to craftsmen and labors.
  • Recommendation to management for improvements and / or corrective action.
  • Maintenance of a working climate conductive to harmonious labor relation.
  • Coordination of temporary outside contractors for maintenance.
  • When necessary, assist Engineering on Capital projects with either installation and / or commissioning.
  • Manage the preventive maintenance program helping move the organization from a reactive maintenance to preventive / predictive maintenance organization.
  • Special tasks / duties / projects as assigned by management.
  • Ensure all activities meet or exceed safety protocols. Implementing and reviewing safety policies and standards.
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors for execution of maintenance work.
  • Ensures coordination of preventive maintenance tasks and timing with affected teams working closely with leadership from other areas.
  • Ensures maintenance of records and documentation meets requirements and regulations.
  • Conducts root cause analysis of equipment failures and implements fix or changes.
  • Ensure timely inspections.
  • Ensure that department, company premises and facilities are kept in clean and hygienic condition, meeting and exceeding internal and external regulations All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role, proven experience as Maintenance supervisor or similar Role.
  • Familiarity in drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics.
  • Solid working knowledge of electrical and mechanical processes related manufacturing.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Visio, Teams and Outlook.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and protects privacy of confidential / sensitive information.
  • Time management and organization skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously establishing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal, written, and presentations) with executive leadership, staff, and internal and external clients.
  • Proactive; exercises sound judgment and decision making; able to identify problems and needs and develop solutions and / or options.
