Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

Redpath Sugar is part of the ASR Group, the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, with an annual production capacity of more than 6 million tons of sugar. The Redpath Belleville plant is a blending and packaging operation producing a variety of sugar containing products for customers in Canada and the U.S. The plant operates state of the art high speed mixing and packaging systems supported by high level safety, quality and logistics systems.

Overview

The Maintenance Supervisor provides hands‑on electrical and mechanical maintenance leadership for the Belleville plant. The role is primarily focused on day‑shift maintenance execution, but also requires flexibility to support afternoon/night shift coverage, weekends , shutdowns, call‑ins, and urgent business needs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. This position is accountable for coordinating maintenance resources, supporting safe and efficient equipment operation, improving equipment reliability, reducing unplanned downtime, and ensuring preventive maintenance work is completed with discipline and follow‑up. The Maintenance Supervisor will lead union maintenance employees and external contractors while working closely with Operations, Quality, Safety, Warehouse, Engineering, and the Maintenance Manager. Active 309A, 442A, or 433A certification is preferred; prior certification or equivalent industrial maintenance leadership experience may be considered for candidates with strong hands‑on capability and proven supervisory experience.

Detailed Roles & Responsibilities
  • Supervise Redpath union maintenance employees and external contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with plant priorities, company policies, and collective agreement expectations.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, training support, and technical guidance to electricians, millwrights, and contractors; set clear priorities and follow up to ensure work is completed to standard.
  • Act as the primary liaison between Maintenance and Operations to coordinate planned work, emergency repairs, production changeovers, sanitation support, and equipment availability.
  • Ensure direct reports follow safe work practices, legal requirements, lockout/tag‑out procedures, GMP expectations, food safety standards, and established maintenance procedures.
  • Lead troubleshooting and repair coordination for electrical, mechanical, packaging, mixing, utility, process, and facility equipment to reduce downtime and restore reliable operation.
  • Strengthen preventive maintenance and reliability practices by reviewing work history, technician feedback, breakdown trends, recurring failures, and root‑cause findings.
  • Use SAP/CMMS to create, prioritize, close, document, and review work orders; maintain accurate equipment history and partner with the Maintenance Planner to improve job plans and PM quality.
  • Monitor maintenance effectiveness metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and support CI, Kaizen, 3 Step, 5 Step, and reliability‑focused improvement activities.
  • Coordinate staffing coverage, overtime, call‑ins, emergency resources, contractor support, and after‑hours response as needed to support a continuous operation.
  • Support maintenance budget preparation, cost tracking, parts usage review, contractor coordination, spare‑parts availability, and recommendations to control maintenance spend.
  • Conduct safety audits, safety meetings, toolbox discussions, and direct employee follow‑up to reinforce a proactive safety culture and address unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Approve timecards, review hours worked, support attendance expectations, document follow‑up items, and maintain professional communication with employees and stakeholders.
  • Provide backup support for the Maintenance Planner/Manager when required and serve as the designated maintenance contact for plant operations during critical events.
  • Responsible for completing other duties as assigned.
Work Experiences
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance & 2 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, food processing, packaging, utilities, or a related high-speed production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading trades, contractors, or maintenance teams; unionized manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, CMMS/SAP work‑order management, parts planning, and maintenance scheduling practices.
  • Experience supporting high-speed packaging, blending/mixing equipment, conveyors, motors, drives, controls, utilities, and facility systems is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications; Allen‑Bradley PLC exposure, controls training, GMP, HACCP, or food safety experience considered assets.
Education Requirements
  • Valid Ontario trade certification such as 309A, 442A, or 433A is preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of industrial maintenance experience, technical education, and supervisory capability may be considered based on business needs.

  • Clear communication, prioritization, documentation, follow‑up, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to build trust with hourly employees and cross‑functional leaders.
  • Ability to collaborate with Operations, Quality, Safety, Warehouse, Engineering, vendors, and contractors to resolve issues and support business continuity.
  • Work with operations to determine project‑support expectations but align final accountability for capital scope, design selection, and project budgets with the Maintenance Manager/Engineering team.

Salary Range/Compensation
  • $76,500.00 to $126,500.00
