Job summary

J&J Snack Foods in Vernon, Canada is seeking a Maintenance Foreman to lead and direct maintenance staff on rotating shifts, ensuring safe, reliable operation of production equipment.

  • Must be able to work any shift including weekends and handle emergency repair work.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assigns & directs the work of maintenance personnel to make sure that work is properly completed on assigned shift.
  • Trains, mentors, and monitors maintenance personnel to make sure professional workmanship standards are met and safety procedures are being followed.
  • Responds to machinery breakdowns, supports daily plant operations, & performs PM’s.
  • Performs machinery set-ups, machinery configurations for changeover of different products, & sanitation teardowns.
  • Performs new electrical & mechanical installations & modifications.
  • Records information on work that has been performed on shift & training that has been provided.
  • Reports issues and challenges with both machinery and personnel.
  • Acts as role model for safety, job performance, quality of work, and procedural and process compliance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical & electrical problems & make appropriate repairs to get machines on line.
  • Follows J&J Snack Food’s Food Safety Plan (FSP), the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program, the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and the Good Documentation Practices (GDPs).
  • Follows all OSHA safety rules and all food safety laws and regulations.
  • Enforces all company rules in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Education and training: Electrical & Mechanical certification or 2 years equivalent experience in each discipline.
  • Job-related experience: Minimum 2 year’s experience as a lead maintenance mechanic or foreman in a manufacturing environment.
  • Managerial experience: N/A
  • Technical knowledge and skills:
  • Must be able to systematically troubleshoot and problem-solve electrical and mechanical systems and components.
  • Requires strong technical aptitude & knowledge of standard mechanical and electrical practices, codes, & standards.
  • Ability to learn new equipment and subjects with limited instruction (i.e., read manuals) and apply new knowledge to complete assignments.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, & stand for several hours, and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to lead others, organize and prioritize work, & assign personnel accordingly.
  • Must know how to use test instruments such as digital multi-meter, gages, laptop computer, & various electronic devices, and standard hand & power tools.
  • Welding, fabrication & machine tool knowledge preferred, but not required.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, electrical drawings, and schematics.
  • Must be able to understand and troubleshoot PLC, VFD, and Servo controllers.
  • Must be able to fabricate from blueprints in wood, stainless, plastic, etc.
  • Must have own tools and know how to use machine shop tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and punches.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) is highly desirable.
  • Prefer certified welder or minimum 2 years On-the-Job training as a welder & knowledge of OSHA standards involving welding, such as hot work permit.
  • Must be available to work any shift including weekends.
  • Must be able to report to work to handle emergency repair work.
  • Must have strong electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Must have own tools and know how to use machines such as vertical mills, lathes, grinders, brakes, and shears.

US Hourly Pay Range

$29 - $38 USD
