EPCOR Utilities Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Shift Lead in Regina, Saskatchewan, to oversee safe, reliable operation of the wastewater plant. You will lead a trades and maintenance team, schedule preventive and corrective work, and ensure compliance with contracts and permits.

You will apply your maintenance expertise, coaching skills, and strong safety focus to drive operational excellence, safety culture, and continuous improvement across shifts and teams.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Journeyperson certificate in electrical, instrumentation, or millwright required.
  • Wastewater operator certification preferred (Level 4 preferred).
  • 5+ years maintenance experience and 3+ years in leadership.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical operations in municipal/industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and IVARA.
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Safety and regulatory compliance focus.
  • Ability to manage budgets and planning.

Responsibilities

We are hiring a full-time permanent Maintenance Shift Lead position working out of Regina, SK .

Reporting to the Team Lead, you will play an important role in maintaining the safe, reliable , and efficient operation of the Regina Wastewater Treatment Plant. Leveraging your maintenance expertise and leadership skills, you will support a team of skilled trades and maintenance professionals while helping ensure equipment, systems, and processes perform at their best.

Working closely with the Team Lead and Operations Manager, you will coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance activities, provide day-to-day guidance to staff, and contribute to a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Through your leadership and technical knowledge, you will help deliver essential services that support regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and the long-term reliability of the plant.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Implementing schedules, assisting colleagues in resolving issues, monitoring equipment performance, and providing direction to maintenance staff while applying maintenance best practices and supporting compliance with contract and operating permit requirements.
  • Applying strong trade knowledge and utilizing available resources to troubleshoot issues, solve problems, and interpret data from vibration and acoustic monitoring, IR scanning, and SCADA systems to support decision‑making.
  • Working with the Team Lead to maintain adequate inventory levels of replacement parts and critical spares while communicating effectively with the Operations Shift Lead and Team Lead to support seamless plant operations.
  • Maintaining and advancing certification levels, pursuing additional training, and supporting the development of training plans for maintenance staff.
  • Troubleshooting wastewater treatment plant equipment and developing practical solutions to equipment and process issues.
  • Performing work safely in accordance with company policies, standard operating procedures, and legislative requirements while supporting a zero‑injury culture and continuous procedural improvement.
  • Contributing to maintenance planning, fostering collaborative working relationships, and sharing technical and safety knowledge while influencing and guiding others to achieve team goals safely.
  • Performing maintenance activities as required and completing accurate documentation to meet contract and regulatory requirements while making informed decisions regarding the timing and scope of maintenance work.
  • Planning and coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance work using weekly schedules as a guide, leveraging IVARA and other systems, and ensuring the plant is properly maintained and housekeeping standards are met.
  • Maintaining awareness of work schedules and attendance expectations, ensuring appropriate planning and communication regarding time‑off requests, and delivering results aligned with performance metrics and the Collective Agreement.
  • Following all site and EPCOR safety requirements while reporting and correcting unsafe conditions and preventing unsafe acts.
  • Keeping management informed of frontline work activities and behavioral performance concerns.

What’s required to be successful

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required
  • Valid Journeyperson Certificate in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Millwright is required
  • Wastewater Operator Certification preferred ( s om e level required; Level 4 preferred)
  • 5+ years of maintenance experience
  • 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Knowledge of mechanical process operations, materials, equipment, and methods in municipal or comparable industrial facilities
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and proficiency in IVARA
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, work plans, and technical manuals
  • Strong knowledge of construction and maintenance best practices and the ability to provide strategic, innovative solutions
  • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater systems, operations, maintenance, and applicable regulations
  • Ability to exercise fiscal responsibility

Safety Sensitive

  • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Saskatchewon Motor Vehicle Operator's License
    • Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviors will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file)
    • A Driver Abstract (5 - year commercial type) will be required
    • Drivers with a GDL class will not be considered
  • Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons
    • Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis

  • A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
