Job summary

The City of Red Deer is seeking a permanent, full-time Maintenance Planner to manage maintenance at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring work packages are complete, resourced, and scheduled before execution.

The role focuses on improving workforce efficiency, asset reliability, regulatory compliance, and safe work practices, with CMMS data optimization and collaboration with Operations and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Journeyperson Certificate in a recognized 4-year industrial trade (Millwright, Electrician, Instrumentation & Control Technician, or Plumbing) from an accredited program.
  • Formal training in maintenance planning and asset management principles (e.g., PEMAC MMP modules or equivalent recognized reliability certification) is considered an asset.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and directly related industrial maintenance planning experience may be considered.
  • Minimum five (5) years progressively responsible experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Experience in maintenance planning, work package development, scheduling, or asset reliability analysis within a regulated industrial or municipal utility environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting technical drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive maintenance work packages, including scope, safety requirements, procedures, drawings, tools, materials, permits, and required trade resources.
  • Prepare labour, material, and duration estimates to support efficient maintenance planning and execution.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify job scope, equipment condition, access requirements, and resource needs prior to scheduling work.
  • Create and coordinate weekly, short-term, long-range, shutdown, and outage maintenance schedules in collaboration with Operations and contractors.
  • Maintain and optimize CMMS data, including preventative maintenance programs, work orders, equipment records, and asset history documentation.
  • Coordinate inventory, materials, critical spare parts, and purchasing activities to ensure maintenance readiness and minimize work delays.
  • Analyze maintenance performance, reliability trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify continuous improvement opportunities and support asset management strategies.
