Job description

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the candidate would be a self-directed, extremely motivated and highly organized individual that would be responsible for all light duty maintenance work, routine checks, maintaining the inventory with cycle counts, ordering the parts and planning PM activities. Part of this would include bi-weekly checks on the ammonia system, water supply tanks, following the bearing lubrication check sheet and gear oil replacement program on all drive systems. Ideally this person would have a mechanical and electrical background, which would eventually allow him to perform minor supervised repairs of process, packaging and other equipment.

Key activities
  • Adhere to housekeeping standards in all areas of responsibility.
  • Boiler and Water System Maintenance:
  • Conduct daily and bi-weekly inspections and water tests on the boiler system, adjust chemical concentrations based on results, and maintain records.
  • Check brine levels, regeneration cycles, and hardness in the soft water system.
  • Equipment and Facility Inspections:
    • Perform daily inspections of the compressor room, record data, and report any issues to the supervisor.
    • Follow plant inspection sheets for roof HVAC systems, exhaust units, etc., record concerns, and perform routine maintenance tasks like replacing worn V-belts, motors, and shrouds.
  • Preventive Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Schedule and execute daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance tasks.
    • Assist in the maintenance and repairs of fillers and packaging equipment.
    • Replace furnace filters, lubricate bearings, and maintain lighting fixtures.
  • Inventory and Parts Management:
    • Conduct inventory cycle counts and manage spare parts inventory.
    • Order necessary parts and items for plant operations.
    • Use the CMMS to check stock status, manage documentation, assets, and work orders.
  • System and Reporting:
    • Coordinate with suppliers, corporate team, and maintenance staff.
    • Train employees on the CMMS and ensure proper use.
    • Generate reports for the maintenance supervisor and team.
    • Manage the alignment of spare parts consumption and storage.
  • Coordination and Support:
    • Support the maintenance supervisor and serve as a liaison between maintenance and operations.
    • Prepare preventive maintenance plans aligned with organizational goals.
    • Participate in preparing reports and KPIs for upper management.
Required training and experience
  • Basic understanding of simple electrical, pneumatic and process circuits and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum grade 12 or equivalent.
  • 5 th Class Power Engineering certificate is required or willing to achieve in one year.
  • Experience with a forklift.
  • Have a working knowledge of cutting and welding equipment.
Skills sought

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Proficient in operating small power tools and hand tools.

Specific conditions regarding the position:

  • Must be available for coverage in other shifts, overtime and some weekend work.
  • Ability to work at elevations of up to 40 ft in either the safety cage or single man lift.
  • Must pass a written mechanical aptitude test.
  • Physically capable of performing all tasks, including loading salt into the brine tank and lifting or moving other cumbersome mechanical items.
