Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, the Casual On-Call Maintenance Person is responsible for responding to maintenance requests and handling emergencies related to building and grounds upkeep. This position requires a proactive, hands-on approach to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment.
Job Duties :
- Minor Repairs : Perform minor repairs on buildings, grounds, furniture, and plumbing systems to maintain operational standards.
- Routine Maintenance : Conduct maintenance and upkeep on electrical fixtures, appliances, and equipment as needed.
- Yard Work : Perform seasonal yard maintenance, including mowing, weeding, and leaf clearing.
- Snow and Ice Removal : Clear all walkways and apply salt or de-icer as necessary to maintain safe entryways during winter.
- Safety Compliance : Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Building Security : Secure buildings by locking doors, windows, and arming alarms as needed to maintain site security.
- Shift Coverage : Be available to cover shifts when other maintenance staff are unavailable.
- Troubleshooting : Diagnose and resolve basic maintenance issues, including electrical, mechanical, and structural problems.
Requirements :
Mandatory Qualifications :
- Prior experience in general maintenance, facility repairs, or related fields.
- Experience working in or with First Nations communities.
- Valid and current clear vulnerable sector check.
- Availability to attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
Knowledge and Certifications :
- Proficiency in building maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Clean criminal record.

- Strong organizational, time management, planning, and scheduling abilities.

Physical Demands :
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable with climbing ladders and navigating stairs.
- Flexibility to perform bending, stooping, and kneeling as required.
- Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Additional Requirements :
- Tools and Equipment : Ability to operate maintenance tools and light machinery (lawnmowers, snow blowers, etc.) safely.
- Communication : Must have a reliable means of communication for on-call responsibilities.
- Flexibility : Willingness to respond to maintenance requests on short notice as needs arise.
