Description

Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, the Casual On-Call Maintenance Person is responsible for responding to maintenance requests and handling emergencies related to building and grounds upkeep. This position requires a proactive, hands-on approach to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment.

Job Duties:

  1. Minor Repairs: Perform minor repairs on buildings, grounds, furniture, and plumbing systems to maintain operational standards.
  2. Routine Maintenance: Conduct maintenance and upkeep on electrical fixtures, appliances, and equipment as needed.
  3. Yard Work: Perform seasonal yard maintenance, including mowing, weeding, and leaf clearing.
  4. Snow and Ice Removal: Clear all walkways and apply salt or de-icer as necessary to maintain safe entryways during winter.
  5. Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
  6. Building Security: Secure buildings by locking doors, windows, and arming alarms as needed to maintain site security.
  7. Shift Coverage: Be available to cover shifts when other maintenance staff are unavailable.
  8. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve basic maintenance issues, including electrical, mechanical, and structural problems.

Requirements:

Mandatory Qualifications:

  1. Prior experience in general maintenance, facility repairs, or related fields.
  2. Experience working in or with First Nations communities.
  3. Valid and current clear vulnerable sector check.
  4. Availability to attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings.

Knowledge and Certifications:

  1. Proficiency in building maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills.
  2. Standard First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  3. Clean criminal record.

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  2. Strong organizational, time management, planning, and scheduling abilities.
  3. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  4. Problem-solving skills with the capacity to take initiative.
  5. Ability to uphold confidentiality and comply with privacy regulations.

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  2. Comfortable with climbing ladders and navigating stairs.
  3. Flexibility to perform bending, stooping, and kneeling as required.
  4. Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
  5. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Tools and Equipment: Ability to operate maintenance tools and light machinery (lawnmowers, snow blowers, etc.) safely.
  2. Communication: Must have a reliable means of communication for on-call responsibilities.
  3. Flexibility: Willingness to respond to maintenance requests on short notice as needs arise.
