Shirley Parsons is seeking a Maintenance Manager for its Taber, Alberta processing plant. The role leads a large maintenance team, overseeing reliability, safety, and efficiency of production equipment and infrastructure to drive best practices and continuous improvement.

The incumbent will drive maintenance planning, predictive and preventive programs, capital planning, CMMS utilization (Maximo), and KPI-driven performance with a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of maintenance management experience in a production environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and/or a Red Seal trade certification is an asset.
  • Strong experience with structured maintenance planning and CMMS platforms; Maximo experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Project Management is considered an asset.
  • Proven leadership, communication, organizational, and motivational skills for leading large skilled trades teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Maintenance department, ensuring Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements while promoting zero harm and continuous improvement.
  • Drive the implementation and optimization of maintenance practices, including predictive/preventative maintenance, inspection programs, inventory management, CMMS utilization, and planning/scheduling.
  • Oversee equipment overhauls, rebuilds, infrastructure improvements, and reliability initiatives to reduce plant downtime.
  • Manage maintenance KPIs, the annual budget, and five-year capital plan with the leadership team to improve safety, quality, cost efficiency, and plant performance.
  • Lead training, development, and succession planning of Maintenance personnel and support change management.

Job description


A leading food manufacturing organization is seeking a Maintenance Manager to join its Taber, Alberta processing plant. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will lead the Maintenance department and oversee the reliability, safety, and efficiency of production equipment, infrastructure, and supporting systems. The role will drive best maintenance practices, continuous improvement, and effective resource utilization across the facility.

The Role

The Maintenance Manager will provide strategic and hands‑on leadership to a large skilled trades team while ensuring the plant's maintenance programs support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role will oversee maintenance planning, predictive and preventative programs, capital planning, CMMS utilization, and equipment reliability while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Maintenance department, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements while promoting a culture focused on zero harm, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive the implementation and optimization of best maintenance practices, including predictive/preventative maintenance, inspection programs, inventory management, CMMS utilization, and maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Oversee equipment overhauls, rebuilds, infrastructure improvements, and reliability initiatives while driving the continuous reduction of plant downtime.
  • Manage Maintenance KPIs, the annual maintenance budget, and five‑year capital plan while collaborating with the leadership team to improve safety, quality, cost efficiency, and plant performance.
  • Lead the training, development, and succession planning of Maintenance personnel while supporting change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5–10 years of maintenance management experience in a production environment, preferably within food manufacturing or a similar industrial facility.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and/or a Red Seal trade certification with relevant management experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong experience with structured maintenance planning and scheduling processes and CMMS platforms; Maximo experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of automated process and packaging technology, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Project Management is considered an asset.
  • Proven leadership, communication, organizational, and motivational skills, with the ability to lead large skilled trades teams, execute projects, manage competing priorities, and deliver measurable improvements.
