Job summary

Schlegel Villages seeks a dedicated LTC Maintenance Worker in Etobicoke, Ontario. The role covers maintenance tasks across carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems and HVAC, in a resident-centered environment.

You will work 9:00am to 5:00pm with a tentative start date in August 2026. Prior LTC experience is beneficial, with opportunities for growth and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• As a Maintenance Worker, you should be able to perform basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical tasks.
• Experience or comfort with working at heights and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift 15–25 lbs and work with residents' belongings respectfully.
• Knowledge of fire alarms, sprinkler systems, call systems and emergency equipment is helpful.
• Previous LTC or retirement home experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Be comfortable working at heights and with outside weather conditions.
• Communicate mechanical problems and possible solutions with minimal supervision.
• Maintain safe operation of general maintenance activities.
• Assist with carpentry, plumbing, electrical tasks and HVAC systems.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with the Village team as needed.

As a new Maintenance Team Member joining our Village Team, you will:

• Be comfortable working at heights and with exposure to outside weather conditions and understand the physical expectations of maintenance work.
• Handle Resident’s personal items with care and respect.
• Communicate the nature of mechanical problems and possible solutions effectively with minimal supervision.
• Be comfortable lifting 15-25 lbs.
• Have general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electricity, hot water heating systems, and air exchange units.
• Possess the ability to deal with the fire alarm, sprinkler systems, call system, and other emergency equipment for the Village.
• Display a caring and respectful attitude toward our residents, families, and team members
• Be willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Have exceptional time management skills and ability to work in collaboration with a team.
• Support and embrace our resident-centred social culture .

It would be an asset, but not required, if our new Maintenance team member has:

• Experience working in a Long-Term Care or Retirement Home setting.
• An awareness and understanding of infection control practices, workplace hazardous materials and chemicals (WHMIS), as well as, all relevant health and safety procedures.
• Skill in operating common hand and power tools.
