Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Helper at our Bradford, ON facility to support night-shift maintenance and routine repairs. The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and aims to keep equipment safe, clean, and operational during overnight hours.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, motivated, and able to work independently while escalating issues when needed. Work involves inspections, minor maintenance, and collaboration with skilled trades to maintain production readiness.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of related maintenance experience in an industrial, facility, manufacturing, or similar environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and safe use of common hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical/electrical equipment and issue identification.
  • Able to troubleshoot basic maintenance issues and elevate when needed.
  • Able to read basic drawings, manuals, work instructions, and procedures.

  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, tools, shops, and parts storage.
  • Identify parts, tools, and materials needed; report shortages.
  • Follow drawings, manuals, procedures, instructions, and sketches.
  • Escalate skilled-trade, safety, or unresolved equipment concerns as required.
  • Support seasonal, grounds, and building system tasks as needed.
  • Respond to night-shift maintenance calls based on safety and production priorities.
  • Document work, parts, equipment issues, root causes, and follow-up actions.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout, GMP, HACCP, WHMIS, environmental, and Health & Safety requirements.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Helper supports general facility and equipment maintenance at the Bradford facility, primarily on night shift, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor and Department Manager.

This role assists with routine maintenance, inspections, preventative work, cleaning, troubleshooting, and repairs to help keep the facility safe, clean, reliable, and operational.

The successful candidate is hands-on, self-motivated, and able to work independently while escalating issues when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Lockout/Tagout, GMP, HACCP, WHMIS, environmental, and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Communicate repairs, downtime, concerns, handovers, and outstanding work clearly.
  • Build positive working relationships and participate in training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of related maintenance experience in an industrial, facility, manufacturing, or similar environment.
  • Food manufacturing experience is an asset.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and safe use of common hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical/electrical equipment and issue identification.
  • Able to troubleshoot basic maintenance issues and elevate when needed.
  • Able to read basic drawings, manuals, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Self-motivated team player able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Moderate computer skills, including electronic work‑order/maintenance systems.
  • Able to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety; GMP, HACCP, WHMIS, and food manufacturing requirements are assets.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, overtime, and statutory holidays as required.
  • Comfortable working in a cold, wet, noisy, industrial environment.
  • Physically able to stand, walk, lift, bend, climb stairs/ladders, and work throughout the facility.
  • Valid driver’s license.
