Job summary

Sienna Senior Living is hiring a Part Time Maintenance Assistant for Aspira Bartlett Oshawa 55+ Lifestyle Apartments. The role includes general repairs, floor care, and upkeep to ensure a safe and welcoming home for residents. Qualifications

  • General repairs and maintenance including painting, plastering, basic plumbing, woodworking and electrical tasks (non-licensed).
  • Floor care: cleaning, scrubbing, striping and waxing hallways and common areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general repair and maintenance tasks to keep the residence safe and welcoming.
  • Paint, plaster, basic plumbing, carpentry and minor electrical work as appropriate.
  • Clean and maintain floors in hallways and common areas per instructions.
  • Maintain building exteriors, grounds, and parking lots.
  • Remove snow and apply salt for safety; manage grounds upkeep.
  • Complete required forms and reports for follow-up; perform other duties as assigned.

What you’ll be doing:

You will be a welcomed team member, working in a fast-paced environment where you will make a meaningful difference in residents’ lives. As a Maintenance Assistant, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for residents and staff. As an individual and part of a wider team, you will be a strong contributor to the culture of the home, where the focus is always on helping residents live fully, every day.

What makes you a great fit?
  • Executing general repair and maintenance work including painting, plastering, basic plumbing (e.g. replacing faucets, unblocking toilets), woodworking (e.g. replacing moulding, installing doors, replacing doorframes) and electrical work (tasks that do not require an electrician’s license, e.g. changing light bulbs)
  • Cleaning, scrubbing, striping and waxing floors in the hallways, stairways, common areas, etc., as instructed, in order to maintain the premises in good condition
  • Emptying out garbage and recycling receptacles at regular intervals in order to prevent waste from accumulating, and ensures recycling materials are stored properly
  • Maintaining building exterior, grounds and parking lots
  • Removing snow on sidewalks and doors and applies salt to ensure resident, visitor and team member safety
  • Mowing and watering grass, tending to flower gardens and applies fertilizer as needed, to ensure the orderly appearance of the grounds
  • Completing the appropriate forms and documents; writing required reports based on available information in order to ensure the necessary follow-up
  • Performing other duties as assigned
What you need to know:
  • Certification, training, and work experience, including competencies, in: building repairs, painting and finishes, floor care, safety procedures, property maintenance, plumbing, heating and air conditioning
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Proven customer service skills and excellent command of verbal and written English language
  • Sound knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in the residence
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team
  • You must be legally eligible to work in Canada or have a valid work/study permit
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants
