Stokes J&M provides comprehensive property services to residential, condominium, commercial, and office properties, with a focus on keeping buildings clean, safe, functional, and well maintained. Our services include janitorial and superintendent services, general maintenance and repairs, inspections, property upkeep, and emergency maintenance support.

We are currently looking for a reliable, skilled, and motivated Maintenance & Repair Technician to join our team and service properties throughout the Niagara Region.

The Position:

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, dependable individual who is comfortable working independently and has a strong understanding of general building maintenance and repairs.

This position involves completing routine maintenance, troubleshooting building issues, performing minor repairs, and ensuring properties remain safe, functional, and well maintained.

The successful candidate is not required to perform licensed electrical or plumbing work. However, they must have the ability to recognize, diagnose, and assess issues involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems, and then communicate the problem clearly and coordinate with the appropriate licensed trade or contractor to have the necessary repairs completed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and general building upkeep.
  • Complete minor repairs and maintenance throughout residential and commercial properties.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine the appropriate course of action.
  • Identify electrical and plumbing issues without performing work that requires a licensed trade.
  • Contact and coordinate with qualified electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and other contractors when specialized work is required.
  • Meet contractors on site, provide access, explain the issue, and oversee work when required.
  • Complete general handyman repairs, including doors, locks, drywall, painting, fixtures, hardware, and other building components.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and identify maintenance concerns before they become larger problems.
  • Report issues requiring professional repair to the appropriate supervisor or property manager.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work independently while maintaining communication with management and property representatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate completed work and outstanding issues.
  • Follow all applicable workplace health and safety requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, property maintenance, handyman work, or a related field.
  • Strong general knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices.
  • The ability to troubleshoot and diagnose common plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and building maintenance issues.
  • The ability to recognize when a repair requires a qualified/licensed trade and arrange for the appropriate contractor.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to speak, read, and write English effectively.
  • A reliable vehicle and valid driver's license – travel throughout the Niagara Region is required.
  • Your own basic hand tools suitable for general maintenance and repair work.
  • A professional attitude and dependable work ethic.
  • The ability to interact respectfully and professionally with tenants, residents, property managers, contractors, and clients.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive wages, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive extended health care benefits through Manulife.
  • A stable opportunity with an established and growing property services company.
  • The opportunity to work across a variety of residential and commercial properties throughout the Niagara Region.
  • A position that offers variety, independence, and the opportunity to use and develop your maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, can look at a problem and figure out the appropriate solution, and understands the importance of keeping properties safe, functional, and well maintained.
