Context

We are looking to grow our Trackwork Design team and seeking a designer that would develop and optimize mainline horizontal and vertical alignments in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, operational criteria, and engineering best practices. This includes producing alignment layouts, vertical profiles, and geometry calculations that support concept, preliminary, and detailed design stages.

The role prepares and reviews alignment drawings, profiles, and geometry reports, verifying that all technical outputs are coordinated, internally consistent, and aligned with system performance, safety, and constructability requirements.

The designer coordinates alignment interfaces with a wide range of disciplines, including structures, utilities, roadways, drainage, property, stops, cable containment, overhead catenary system (OCS), grounding and bonding, and wayside equipment. This involves identifying conflicts, resolving interface constraints, and ensuring alignment decisions are integrated across the broader corridor design.

The role supports design reviews by presenting alignment concepts, responding to technical comments, and incorporating agreed revisions into the design. The designer also contributes to value engineering exercises and manages alignment-related changes arising from options analysis, helping

evaluate alternatives based on technical, operational, cost, and spatial considerations.

Missions/Main Duties
  • Develop horizontal and vertical alignments for mainline track systems.
  • Prepare and review alignment plans, profile drawings, and geometry reports.
  • Perform alignment checks for compliance with design criteria, safety requirements, and operational constraints.
  • Coordinate design interfaces with civil, structural, systems, utilities, and roadway disciplines.
  • Identify and resolve geometric conflicts affecting constructability and system integration.
  • Support interdisciplinary design workshops, reviews, and technical coordination meetings.
  • Contribute to options development, comparative assessments, and value engineering studies.
  • Review design changes and assess impacts on alignment, interfaces, and project requirements.
  • Maintain design documentation and support change control processes.
Profile/Skills

Education/Experience : Bachelor’s degree/Technology Diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline;

  • 5+ years’ experience in railway / LRT horizontal and vertical alignment design;
  • knowledge of track geometry standards, speed and comfort criteria and constructability constraints;
  • experience coordinating alignment with structures, utilities, roadway's, drainage, property, operations and maintenance (Knowledge of the local area would be considered an asset).
