Job summary

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Project Manager to lead Rail System projects across corridors. You will work with Design Leads and engineers to ensure successful delivery, coordinating design activities and stakeholder communications.

The role requires strong project and vendor-management skills and a focus on on-time, on-budget execution. Responsibilities include planning, risk management, budgeting, and interfacing with contractors and clients.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years progressively responsible capital project management experience.
• Experience managing large, multi-year transit projects, signaling and train control assets is a plus.
• Solid knowledge of project management principles: budget, schedule, and risk controls.
• Experience with vendor management and external partner coordination.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrification traction power project delivery from design through testing and commissioning.
• Oversee in-market activities: RFIs and submittals during design.
• Conduct value engineering, risk assessment, life-cycle costing, and constructability reviews.
• Minimize operational disruption while coordinating third-party works.
• Monitor progress toward objectives: design standards, specs, budgets, schedules.
• Supervise contractors’ plans for completion and safety, quality, and cost control.
• Provide strategic oversight of programme performance and issue resolution.
• Lead a team of experts, staff and project managers for efficient delivery.
• Act as primary client representative with contractors and delivery partners.
• Manage commercial/contractual aspects including strategy, changes, and claims.

Context

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing specific Rail System projects across all corridor(s). They will work closely with the each Design Lead/Engineers and other team members to ensure the successful execution of the projects. Their responsibilities include developing project plans, coordinating design activities, monitoring project progress, managing project risks and issues, and ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of the design scope. The Project Managers serve as the main point of contact for project-related communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Missions/Main Duties

• Responsible for efficient delivery of Electrification Traction Power projects (e.g. preliminary design, detailed design, preparation of contract documents, construction, contract management, and testing and commissioning activities).
• Manages in-market activities during project design phase, including contractor requests for information and review submittals.
• Manages value engineering, risk assessment, life cycle costing, earned value and constructability reviews.
• Prioritizes work for minimum disruption to operational efficiency to maintain consistent levels of customer service and integrate and cooperate with third party works.
• Reviews and monitors progress toward project objectives (e.g. engineering, design standards/design review, technical specifications, technical and operational requirements, document control, budget and work breakdown structures, project schedules, resource prioritization, and staffing requirements).
• Monitors contractors’ construction and design plans and schedules to ensure they are complete, workable, and comply with contract documents; oversees contractor compliance with contract provisions, and monitors contractor compliance with safety, quality, environmental, budgeted costs, and schedule performance. Provides strategic oversight of programme performance, identifying issues early and driving timely resolution.
• Leads a team of technical experts, support staff and project managers for the efficient delivery of the program.
• Acts as the primary client representative, managing all key interfaces with contractors and delivery partners to ensure alignment on scope, priorities, programme, risk, governance, and delivery outcomes.
• Leads commercial and contractual management, including contract strategy, change control, and claims, while driving a collaborative delivery culture that protects the client’s commercial and strategic interests.

Profile/Skills

• A university degree in Engineering from a recognized university or any combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
• Minimum eight (10) years of progressively responsible experience in capital project management and implementation
• Experience managing large, complex, multi-year transit projects in an operational environment, for signalling and train control systems and related works will be considered an asset
• Knowledge of project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls, to lead and direct cross functional teams and consultants, ensuring adherence to timelines and project performance objectives.
• Experience with vendor management to manage development and delivery of externally/internally provided products and services.

Salary Range : 120,000 CAD - 170,000 CAD annually
