Core Function:

Distributed Systems Batch and Console Operator

Perform Computer Operation duties per documented processes and procedures. This includes a working knowledge of customer system environment with ability to interact, troubleshoot issues and work independently in a 24/7 environment. Shift work and on-site presence are required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Job Duties Include:

• Monitoring network devices including routers, switches, hubs, gateways, firewalls, and resource availability using Tivoli On Demand Event Management services.
• Responding to alerts generated by monitoring tools such as Viewpoint, Netview, Tivoli, Omnibus.
• Using ArcSight and Nagios to monitor security services including intrusion detection/prevention, firewalls, web content filtering, email anti-spam, and encryption.

Monitoring:

• Conduct daily health checks to ensure systems are operational.
• Respond to alerts from monitoring tools.
• Monitor devices including servers, hubs, routers, switches, gateways, and firewalls.
• Handle system, device, and application alerts.
• Perform level 1 and level 2 problem determination procedures.
• Escalate incidents to support teams and document incidents with detailed steps.
• Escalate to third-party vendors when necessary.
• Monitor backups via Trinity, escalate missed or failed backups, check restores on NDMP, and monitor OSS links.
• Support help desk requests, execute batch jobs, reset/restart devices, terminate transactions, and perform server reboots.
• Support application upgrades and perform readiness testing.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Minimum 2 years' experience, preferably in a data center environment.
• Intermediate knowledge of Windows, AIX/Unix, and network monitoring.
• Knowledge of batch job scheduling tools like ESP, Control-M, CA-7, TWS/OPC.
• Understanding of distributed system devices and ticketing systems such as Maximo, ServiceNow, Remedy, Cherwell.
• Ability to work independently and in teams, with strong problem determination skills.
• Effective communication in English and French; ability to obtain L2 Secret clearance.

Physical and Mental Demands:

Regular sitting, talking, hearing, and using standard office equipment. Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs. Mental skills include effective communication, problem-solving, and maintaining composure in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

Primarily sedentary office work, maintaining a safe and clean workspace, following safety rules, and reporting safety issues.
