Job summary

Advanced Material Handling in Abbotsford, BC is seeking a Machine Shop Helper apprentice to support setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines.

Ideal for 1st–3rd year machinist apprentices looking to gain hands-on experience in machining, programming, and quality control within a fast-paced shop.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd-year machinist apprentice (preferred but not mandatory).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Experience with Haas control systems (preferred but not mandatory).
• Overhead crane experience is an asset.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
• Ability to work independently and safely in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• CNC Machine Operation: Setup and run CNC Lathes and Mills as per provided drawings.
• Production Support: Assist in producing parts in a job shop-style machine shop, making a variety of different products.
• Quality Control: Inspect and verify parts against blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Report CNC machine repair needs and assist in maintaining tools and equipment.
• Material Handling: Ensure proper handling and organization of raw materials and finished parts.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the machine shop supervisor and team to meet production goals.
• Continuous Improvement: Support efforts to optimize programs, reduce machine spindle time, and improve efficiency.
• Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean and safe work area, following all company policies and safety regulations.

About the Role

As a Machine Shop Helper at Advanced Material Handling, you will play a vital role in supporting the machine shop team with setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines.
