Job summary

Durham District School Board is seeking a Lunchroom Supervisor to supervise students during lunch hours at a DDSB school in Whitby. You will help with lunchroom setup, supervise activity, ensure safety, and support a positive lunchtime environment.

Ideal candidates are 16+ years old, able to work daily or as needed, and willing to engage with diverse students. Training provided; punctuality and reliability are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during lunch to ensure safety and orderly conduct.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of lunchroom areas.
  • Manage disposal of lunch waste and keep the area clean.
  • Report disciplinary concerns to the Principal as required.

Job description

LUNCHROOM SUPERVISOR
Reports to: Principal

Lunchroom Supervisors work under the direction of the Principal of the school to which they have been appointed. Lunchroom Supervisors shall be responsible for supervising students who remain on the school grounds over the lunch hour recess. The Principal shall determine the time period during which the lunchroom supervisor will be employed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lunchroom Supervisors support students in various classroom settings to provide lunch break supervision on a daily or supply basis.
  • Supervising the setting-up and removal of lunch room equipment.
  • Supervising the disposal of lunch refuse in suitable containers and the general cleaning of the lunch room areas.
  • Dealing with discipline problems in a manner prescribed by the Principal and reporting significant disciplinary actions to the Principal or his/her designate.
  • Carrying out such noon hour supervision duties as the Principal may assign.

Additional Information:
  • Minimum age requirement for this position is 16 years old. With a valid SIN and legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Since this is a casual position that works daily or on-call, during the school year (September to June), lunchroom supervisors must live within a reasonable distance to the school.
How much time is involved?
  • Lunchroom supervisors will generally work approximately 1-2 hours per day (or more depending on the school's requirements) during the school year from September to June.
