Job summary

The Durham District School Board invites applications for occasional teacher roles supporting land-based learning across our sites: Durham Forest, Nonquon, Pheasants Pen and Duffins Creek. You will deliver curriculum-aligned lessons, foster an inclusive classroom, and adapt materials to diverse learners in outdoor settings.

Qualifications

  • Ontario teaching certification or Transitional Certificate in Good Standing is required.
  • Outdoor Education qualification (AQs) is required.
  • Anishinaabemowin Language qualification (AQs) is required.
  • First Nations, Métis, Inuit qualification or experience is required.
  • Land-Based Learning experience is required.

Job Details

The Durham District School Board acknowledges that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships, both historic and modern, with the territories upon which our school board and schools are located. Today, this area is home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that the Durham Region forms a part of the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, the Mississauga Peoples and the treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. It is on these ancestral and treaty lands that we teach, live and learn.


This statement was co-created in partnership with the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation and the Chippewas of Georgina Island.


These positions support land-based learning programs throughout the DDSB and the four (4) land-based learning sites. Programs include understanding Indigenous Knowledge in connections with relationships to the land, including language connections and Indigenous ways of knowing. Occasional teachers are required to be outside for the duration of the program and will work with other members of the land-based learning team.


Locations: Durham Forest, Nonquon, Pheasants Pen and Duffins Creek.

Additional information

Rate of pay (determined by respective collective agreements)


ETFO - elementary certified - $289.52/ full day


OSSTF - secondary $286.28/ full day


Upon hire

You must provide the People and Culture department with a current obtained or applied for (within six months of your start date) vulnerable sector screening.
