Job summary

The Planning Forester 2 role in Vernon, BC, is with BC Timber Sales under the BC Public Service. You will engage stakeholders early in harvest planning, develop five-year sales plans, and coordinate with specialists to manage complex forest resources while ensuring fair market pricing for the Province.

Flexibility is available with remote work up to two days per week under a telework agreement; CRC may be required, and applicants must reside in BC at the time of employment.

Qualifications

• Registered Professional Forester (RPF) eligibility with FPBC and two years of field forestry experience.
• Experience in operational field forestry activities and related planning.
• Must have a valid BC Class 5 driver's license.

The Team

Join the established TOC Planning Team within the Okanagan Columbia Business Area, a collaborative group of knowledgeable and dedicated professionals who work together in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work closely with Planning Foresters, Indigenous Relations Liaisons and Practices Foresters, building strong relationships and contributing to meaningful stakeholder engagement while helping deliver sustainable timber sales that support communities across the region. The Role

As a Planning Forester, you’ll engage with stakeholders early in the harvest planning process, creating opportunities for diverse perspectives and local knowledge to be heard and considered. You’ll develop five-year sales plans, oversee field recce contracts and coordinate with specialists such as hydrologists, biologists and geologists, applying your practical skills to complex forest management challenges while supporting fair market pricing and revenue for the Province. Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements

• A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia(FPBC)and two years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
• Operational field forestry activities include the following:
  • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
  • Cut-block development
  • Forest road engineering
  • Silviculture
  • Timber tenure development and administration
  • Planning integrated resource management
• Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

• Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience
• Experience working with Indigenous Peoples
• Coursework or experience in contract or financial administration
• Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
• Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
• Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
• Must be able to maintain membership with the Forest Professionals of BC as a member in good standing

Flexible work options may be available; successful candidate can work up to 2 days a week remotely subject to an approved telework agreement.
