Role Overview

The Light Rail Construction Manager – Systems/Construction leads installation and integration of rail systems including communications, signalling, overhead catenary system (OCS), traction power systems (TPSS), and MEP infrastructure. Acts as a key interface between civil and systems contractors, ensuring timely, quality delivery in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Responsible for one segment of a complex, multi-billion-dollar program.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Manage and coordinate daily construction activities within the segment, providing leadership and direction.
  2. Drive multidisciplinary work to maximize value and adhere to project schedules.
  3. Plan staffing, build readiness matrices, and ensure resource availability.
  4. Coordinate with other segments and managers on scope and documentation boundaries.
  5. Work with procurement to ensure materials and resources are in place, mitigating resource spikes.
  6. Define technical and procurement expectations and monitor delivery.
  7. Identify opportunities for early value delivery and incorporate into planning.
  8. Implement safety and quality standards, ensuring safety leadership and compliance.
  9. Manage work packages, monitor costs and schedules, and report progress.
  10. Ensure team focus on delivery, remove obstacles, and promote safety and quality.
  11. Mentor team members, manage project schedule, and ensure full compliance with project standards.
  12. Support project communication and stakeholder engagement.
  13. Assist in recruiting qualified personnel.
  14. Contribute to testing, commissioning, and handover processes, including defect correction and documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field for systems (communications, signals, OCS, TPSS, MEP).
  • Minimum 10 years of field experience in large multidisciplinary construction projects.
  • Proven experience in similar roles on transportation projects in urban environments.
  • Must be local or willing to relocate to Edmonton, Alberta for the project duration (3 years).
  • Experience with large joint venture infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Ability to navigate challenging terrains and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
