Role Overview

The Light Rail Construction Manager – Systems / Construction leads installation and integration of rail systems including communications, signalling, overhead catenary system (OCS), traction power systems (TPSS), and MEP infrastructure. Acts as a key interface between civil and systems contractors, ensuring timely, quality delivery in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Responsible for one segment of a complex, multi-billion-dollar program.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate daily construction activities within the segment, providing leadership and direction.
  • Drive multidisciplinary work to maximize value and adhere to project schedules.
  • Plan staffing, build readiness matrices, and ensure resource availability.
  • Coordinate with other segments and managers on scope and documentation boundaries.
  • Work with procurement to ensure materials and resources are in place, mitigating resource spikes.
  • Define technical and procurement expectations and monitor delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for early value delivery and incorporate into planning.
  • Implement safety and quality standards, ensuring safety leadership and compliance.
  • Manage work packages, monitor costs and schedules, and report progress.
  • Ensure team focus on delivery, remove obstacles, and promote safety and quality.
  • Mentor team members, manage project schedule, and ensure full compliance with project standards.
  • Support project communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to testing, commissioning, and handover processes, including defect correction and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field for systems (communications, signals, OCS, TPSS, MEP).
  • Minimum 10 years of field experience in large multidisciplinary construction projects.
  • Proven experience in similar roles on transportation projects in urban environments.
  • Must be local or willing to relocate to Edmonton, Alberta for the project duration (3 years).
  • Experience with large joint venture infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Ability to navigate challenging terrains and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
