Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Area Manager, Facilities Operations under the direction of the lead hand, the incumbent performs a variety of tasks related to the administration, installation and maintenance of door and window hardware, related keying and electronic access systems.

Accountabilities
  • Respects and responds to direction given by lead hand(s);
  • Sets up/maintains master key systems to accommodate new and existing keys;
  • Installs doors and associated hardware, including locks, panic sets, and closing devices;
  • Repairs and maintains all existing door hardware, including locksets, door closers, panic sets;
  • Installation and maintenance of accessible door operators;
  • Administers, maintains and controls the University’s key database ;
  • Keeps accurate records of new requests, and changes to keying systems, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures related to access control;
  • Prepares estimates for work orders, including all physical and electronic components required;
  • Keeps an adequate stock of supplies for routine repairs, and emergency scenarios;
  • Coordinates and works with outside service providers on specialty door access applications;
  • Provides input on the design, and coordinates installation of door access components in new construction/renovations;
  • Provides after-hours support for campus partners such as the Special Constable Service and IT departments;
  • Understands and ensures compliance with all Departmental Policies and Procedures;
  • Confidential support for Human Resources and Special Constable Service departments related to Faculty/Staff/Student security matters;
  • Universal/Barrier -Free washroom electronic hardware installation and maintenance, ensuring AODA compliance for the institution;
  • Design, specify components for access control installations, providing pricing where required;
  • Programming of the access control systems, from new installation/component configuration, provisioning access, up to an including setting up lockdown and special event functionality;
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostic support on access control system issues;
  • Provide user training/support;
  • Campus partner support/coordination for shared services (ie. Banner data push, server issues).
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience as a locksmith, with 5 years’ experience in the trade and/or access control experience;
  • Currently working in the trade;
  • Ability to set up and maintain a master keying system;
  • Experience working with electronic work order systems;
  • Experience in enterprise level access control systems;
  • Experience with Medeco high security keying/locksets;
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, AODA requirements;
  • Ability to read blueprints/project drawings;
  • Understanding of and experience with low voltage control circuits;
  • Computer literacy, ie. use of Microsoft Office suite, key management software, access control software;
  • Possession of a valid Class – G Ontario Driver’s license in good standing;
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Shares information with team members and communicates potential issues to Lead Hand/Management;
  • Customer focused - responds promptly to customer needs. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers;
  • Receptive to change - can adapt to changing circumstances. Makes suggestions for improvement;
  • Respects diversity - treats others with respect, is understanding of others. Avoids unnecessary conflict;

Hours of work

The normal hours of work are 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours will be required, including evening and/or weekend work due to campus requests and support. When possible, the manager will adjust the work schedule so that no more than 40 hours are worked in a week.

Compensation

Rate of Pay: $38.77 per hour
