Job summary

Bantrel, a leading EPC/EPCM contractor in Canada, seeks a LOTO Coordinator for a large Saskatchewan project in Leroy. You will develop, implement, and continuously improve the Lockout/Tagout program, train crews, and enforce hazardous energy control across the workforce.

We are currently seeking a qualified LOTO Coordinator to join our construction team based in Leroy, Saskatchewan. The LOTO Coordinator will be responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the project's Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Program. This role will also provide training, guidance, and enforcement of LOTO requirements across the project workforce.

This project position is anticipated to continue through August 2027, subject to project requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) team supporting engineering and construction activities on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. Following the successful completion of the Definition Phase Study, HBJV is currently executing the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI), and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published Total Installed Cost (TIC) of US$5.3 to US$5.7 billion, the project represents one of the largest private investments and construction projects in Canada. HBJV will leverage a combination of innovative technologies, advanced systems, and proven project execution tools to successfully deliver this world-class development.

The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in heavy industrial construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, or operations environments, with demonstrated expertise in hazardous energy isolation and LOTO program administration. Candidates should possess strong communication, and coordination skills, along with practical experience managing mechanical, electrical, process, and piping isolations. Experience with digital LOTO systems, contractor oversight, permit-to-work processes, and commissioning activities will be essential to success in this role. A passion for safety excellence and continuous improvement, combined with the ability to influence and training diverse project teams, will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilties:

• Lead the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the site LOTO Program.
• Review, coordinate, and administer LOTO requests, isolation plans, commissioning permits, and Work Package Risk Assessments (WPRAs).
• Ensure the safe execution of lockout/tagout activities in compliance with project procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with Construction, Commissioning, Field Engineering, Contractors, and Health & Safety teams to support safe work execution.
• Maintain digital LOTO systems, isolation registers, lock-holder records, and related documentation.
• Coordinate and verify the application and removal of locks, tags, and isolation devices.
• Validate isolation boundaries, confirm zero-energy states, and authorize work activities in accordance with approved LOTO procedures.
• Train project personnel and contractors on LOTO requirements and verify qualifications of authorized workers.
• Audit LOTO processes and contractor compliance, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Support equipment commissioning, first energization, and Notice of Energization activities by ensuring isolation requirements are met.
• Interpret P&IDs, electrical, mechanical, piping, and as-built drawings to identify isolation points and energy sources.
• Ensure equipment and systems are returned to a safe operating condition following completion of work.
• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of LOTO procedures, systems, and work practices through lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in construction, commissioning, pre-commissioning, operations, or industrial safety within heavy industrial projects.
• Minimum 2 years of dedicated experience as a LOTO Coordinator or in a comparable energy-isolation leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and managing LOTO programs in industrial construction or commissioning environments.
• Practical knowledge of mechanical, process, electrical, and piping isolation procedures.
• Strong understanding of commissioning and start-up activities.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, and red-line documentation.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience on large-scale mining, oil and gas, energy, or industrial projects.
• Experience supporting commissioning and first-energization activities.
• Formal training or certifications related to LOTO, commissioning, safety, or hazardous energy control.
