POSITION SUMMARY

Dentons’ Vancouver office is currently seeking a Litigation Paralegal with a focus on eDiscovery to join our Construction Litigation team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative and collegial group that values initiative, curiosity, and teamwork.

The ideal candidate is a confident, reliable professional with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities. You’ll bring proven experience in eDiscovery and litigation practice support, along with a proactive mindset and a genuine interest to dive deep into and engage in our clients’ matters. In this role, it’s all about teamwork, so you will work closely with lawyers, fellow paralegals, and legal support professionals to collaboratively develop thoughtful, effective solutions for our clients.

We are open to receiving applications from experienced eDiscovery focused paralegals from outside the lower mainland and the province of British Columbia and will consider a fully remote arrangement for those who reside outside of the lower mainland.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting lawyers with all aspects of the document collection, processing, review and production processes
  • Using litigation support and e-discovery software (Relativity) to support document, and case analysis
  • Effectively manage e-discovery databases and handle electronic evidence
  • Using advanced search strategies to locate key evidence
  • Assisting with the preparation of chronologies and issue briefs
  • Participating as an integral part of matter teams, developing a substantive understanding of the matter
  • Reviewing, summarizing, and organizing documents for hearings, discoveries, trial, etc.
  • Preparing document productions and lists of documents
  • Prepare and organize materials for experts
  • Prepare charts, chronologies and summaries of documentary evidence
  • Carry out e-discovery project management, including coordination among team members, clients, opposing counsel and external vendors
  • Prepare for examinations for discovery, applications and trials, including assembling affidavits and court records

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years’ paralegal experience in civil litigation
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using e-discovery software with a strong understanding of both e-discovery software and litigation processes
  • Strong technical proficiency in using e-discovery software (Relativity preferred) to manage e-discovery projects
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and features and support other team members in using them
  • Ability to develop a general understanding of complex subjects related to legal matters
  • Experience with complex, document-intensive matters
  • Technological proficiency, including in programs such as MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and time tracking software
  • Practice knowledge of Supreme Court Civil, Court of Appeal, and Federal Court Rules
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Strong legal analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Detail oriented and have excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with lawyers, legal assistants, and paraprofessionals
  • Ability to prioritize high volume of tasks and competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

The expected salary range for this role is $75,000- $95,000, commensurate with experience.
