Aplin is proud to partner with our client in the search for aLitigation Legal Assistantwith a keen interest inIndigenous law. This is a unique opportunity to join a well-respected, values-driven law firm and contribute to meaningful legal work that supports Indigenous communities and governance. If you thrive in a dynamic litigation environment and are passionate about making a difference, this role could be a great fit.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, draft, and format legal documents and correspondence, including pleadings, affidavits, briefs, and court forms.
  • File court documents with various levels of court, including electronic filing (e.g., Court of King’s Bench, Federal Court).
  • Manage litigation calendars, track deadlines, and schedule court appearances and meetings.
  • Maintain organized physical and electronic filing systems and case files.
  • Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other stakeholders in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Assist lawyers with trial preparation, hearing materials, and case summaries.
  • Manage time entries, billing, and expense reporting.
  • Conduct basic legal research and gather supporting documentation as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Legal Assistant Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of litigation experience preferred; experience in Indigenous law is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of court rules, procedures, and litigation processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and legal practice management software (e.g., iManage and Acumin is a bonus but training is provided).
  • Proficient in Adobe with the ability to add page numbers, combine documents, bookmark, add hyperlinks.
  • he ability to file with Justice Digital is a ideal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
